If you apply ED your in 90% chance
If you apply RD your in 80% chance

You're almost likely gonna get in

^I wouldn't be THAT confident.

If I were you, I would apply to Engineering ED. Your SAT Math and SAT II scores are perfect (I'm counting the Bio 790), and Cornell doesn't consider Writing scores. Of course, it might be beneficial to you (if you can afford it and don't have any other tests to take in October) to retake the SAT in October to up the Critical Reading, because if you DON'T get into Cornell ED and you'd like to apply to even more selective schools (like MIT or CalTech), a high CR score wouldn't hurt you - nevertheless, I don't think the 700 will hurt you much for ED at Cornell Engineering. You have engineering-related ECs, and the computer science internship sounds like a bonus (is it a real, paid internship?). What I'd worry about is your relative lack of leadership - since you don't have many presidencies or other "leadership on paper" titles, I'd be sure to emphasize your passion for your potential major/engineering in general in your supplement essay (if you do apply to Cornell Engineering).

All in all, I'd say you'd be in quite good shape for applying ED to Engineering (but of course, no one sort of a URM-recruited-athlete-with-a-2300+-SAT is a guranteed in at a place like Cornell). RD, your chances dip a bit (if only for the reason that you are the typical male, Indian applicant). Of course, if you don't LOVE Cornell, then DO NOT APPLY EARLY DECISION. Remember that ED is binding, so you MUST NOT apply ED to any school that you can't easily picture attending or that you have serious doubts about.

thanks a lot. anyone else?

Your Math scores are great for engineering, but your CR and Writing might be a bit low. Also, I agree with the person above that you don't really have much leadership, nor is it apparent that you've demonstrated an interest in engineering. I see the CS internship, but I would be careful about how I frame that on the application. A lot of those internships are fluff and don't really have you do much real work. If you could describe the worthwhile things you did, that would do wonders for your case. Honestly, I can't give you a percentage evalauation of your chances, because one you are pretty typical of an applicant to Engineering, and two, a friend of mine with better stats was rejected with similar ECs. Apply and see what happens. If you are sure about Cornell, apply ED. If not wait and apply RD.

What work did you do at the CS internship?

A side note, Cornell's CS program is REALLY good, so if you get in, its worth coming here. Also, apply to Engineering, because I don't think your CR and writing justify Arts. However, if you want to do a double major with a liberal arts then apply to arts.

i don't mean to sabotage the thread, but @ karajanhra, cornell doesn't look at writing? or do you just mean the engineering school doesn't? because others have told me cornell does look at writing

Zaroc, I think you have a decent shot at Engineering. Arts and Sciences, not so much because a) it's EXTREMELY selective and b) your EC's and scores lend themselves much more to the engineering aspect of academia rather than the liberal arts.

I also have the same question as lopo, my SAT I scores were as follows: 720 CR, 780 Math, 800 Writing, for a composite of 2300. I'd REALLY like the 800 Writing to be looked at... so if someone could answer just how much Cornell looks at the composite/Writing score that would be great. Oh, and I'm applying to HumEc ED.

And if anyone felt like it, chance me on the thread "Human Ecology! Opinions and Chance Me Please"

Thanks

Lopo: I'm pretty sure Cornell doesn't look at SAT Writing at all.

Thanks a lot for the responses. That really helps me out a lot.

And to the question about writing...I asked the admissions officers at Cornell the same question when I visited, and they told me that they don't look at writing scores. They still look at it out of 1600. That's kinda why I'm not too worried about my writing score.

ur in. you SAT score is way above their 2050 SAT score average. Just write a great essay and your almost definetly in.

Good Luck!

Your SAT score is about average for engineering admitted students(which is a good thing), but your ec's are run of the mill. If you apply ED, you have a good chance, regular decision it's probably a crapshoot. ED gives a big boost.

Mid-50% SAT Math range -
admitted students 730 to 800

Mid-50% SAT Verbal range -
admitted students 660 to 750
