I will start by saying that Michigan State is a very fine school. When they say that they "transform lives," they are not lying at all. People enter MSU with lower grade points and test scores than other schools; however, when those same people graduate from State, they have as many opportunity as jobs as graduates from other schools, including Michigan. However, yes, Michigan State does have a history of rioting and degrees do carry less prestige than, say, U of Michigan, but the campus is very beautiful and the school is very great, especially in medicine. I do believe that vet med was ranked #9 this year.

Your GPA is very strong at a 3.87, coupled with 3 AP classes. Michigan State does like prospective applicants who challenge themselves with AP workload, and they will likely give you credit or a course waiver for your AP grades. Your SAT is not terrible and is well within range for State; however, if your SAT math is under about a 550, I would be slightly concerned. Nevertheless, State may overlook that because you seem to be a really strong biology student, with a 740 on SAT Subject and a 5 on the AP. Your ECs are pretty good and your awards are also very good, mostly at the state level, which is more than enough for MSU.

Overall, you're a pretty good student who has obviously worked hard in HS. Michigan State is a safety match school for you, with your in range SAT scores and above average GPA. Make sure you do a good job on your essays; State does actually read them.

Glad you're considering to come to Michigan for college! We Michigan people will always welcome you into our state! (especially when we're not doing too well!)
