Hey I'm applying to harvard this year, and I just wanted to hear your opinions on whether I'd get accepted or not. I'm an Indian (born in USA) male from NJ.

if you read this over and had an opinion about the fate of my harvard application and were willing to share, I would appreciate it
THANKS!

also, it's kinda weird, like 1 person has gotten into harvard from my school in literally the last 10 years...

Essay+Interview= the chances of u getting in

rest of ur application= qualified for harvard (in my opinion)

hope u can pour 1 of ur passions out for the essays (having a consistent topic i heard for an application is good... e.g. focussing all the questions under the theme of football or something...)

anyways im applying this year to... good luck bro... INDIANS RULE WOOT lol! :P

haha yea dude. thanks, and good idea!
hope to see you there!

i'm still open to more opinions, advice, etc.
and of course, i hope everyone can be honest, no matter how harsh your opinions are

You are so in. You just seem like someone who would provide something unique to the Harvard admissions. I think that much of Harvard admissions have become luck of the draw more so than merit, and I wish there was more subjective data on which we could be evaluated when we apply. Hopefully I will see you there. (I also which they considered the applicant's level of interest, at least a little bit... I think it matters, but whatever.) I wish us luck.

oh wow, that's great! lol... but yeah good luck to you too!
anybody else?

@23hevfalub23,
what do you see in his application that is going to be so unique to add to the Harvard admissions? (no offense to smeagz, i think you have a great application and a great chance! :) )

There are just about two words going against you in those stats:

Indian Male

Nonetheless, you have a good shot

lol sometimes its good to be black :)
i have a 1990 and i'm thinkin I have a pretty good shot at going to harvard...last year a girl was accepted from my school with a 1850...although we both have stellar EC's...

hahah yea.. it's rough, but yea, i just waned to see if i was qualified, thanks.. it's just essays and luck really now, right?

anybody else?

anything else to say?

You have the stats, and ECs, however they may see your Princeton connection and wonder if that will be your first choice. (If you have a parent at PU that could be a negative, unless you carefully indicate why HU is your first choice.) Good luck.

thoughts were the same as fauve...

make sure you indicate harvard's your first choice

i would emphasize your passion
(physics im guessing)...and show the logical flow from math course at Princeton to astrophysics research (which sounds and probably is impressive, lol)

fairly good shoot...apply to all HYPS (you may want to throw in MIT/CIT) and your bound to get in at one of them, add a good essay and letter of rec's and your application will be complete

you can chance me too if you;d like

*There are just about two words going against you in those stats:

Indian Male*

Actually five words:

Indian Male from New Jersey

thanks guys
haha but actually my main passion is math. but i definitely want to do pre-med at the same time, so i'm applying to a bunch of those 7/8 year med programs
i'm applying to brown plme ED (so that i can do math and pre-med easily), but out of HYPS, MIT, and CalTech, i'm only applying to HP. (i do prefer H over P, in fact), and i'm not a big fan of tech schools (and i liked many other schools over yale), but i see what your saying about the apparent princeton preference (i live 15 mins away at that). how can i make that clear in harvard's app?
and haha true that llpitch... i hate that!

i'm applying to: harvard, princeton, washu, penn, duke, emory.
and these med programs: brown, rice, northwestern, the college of nj, miami, bu, drexel, lehigh, gw
tcnj (w/o med) is my safety. i'd strongly consider going to brown, rice, or northwestern even if i don't get into the med programs there

I don't believe the Princeton connection would be a problem, it's probably just really close to where the OP lives.

Don't worry about a possible Princeton connection - that would essentially be penalizing you for taking advantage of available resources. H is smarter than that.

You seem to be on the cusp of admission from what I've seen in the admitted students thread, etc. Your scores are good (2320/2300 SAT/II's) for H students, decent AP scores/rank, good rigor with your classes, and interesting extracurriculars. I would not be surprised if you were accepted, but you could also as an ORM from NJ be on the outside looking in. You'll be attending some great school next fall.
