Chance me please

Class: 09
Race: Indian born, moved here in 5th grade from Brazil
School: Really good public school. At least 10% of kids get into Ivies/similar ranked school each year
Number of students in Class: 376
GPA: 3.5, due to slacking off the first two years. Upward trend, 3.3-->3.5-->3.8. School has a weird way of weighting, only APs are given weighting and they're give a +.4. Honors and accelerated get nothing. There isn't a unweighted GPA either, just this. So for example, the valedictorian traditionally has a 4.1 GPA. There's no 4.7 and things like that here, lol.
Class Rank: Unknown, sadly. I'm not in the top 10%, since that's a 3.9 (O_O) but I'm think I might be in the top 30-40%. Problem is a lot of kids in our year took simpler classes and scored well in them, and since there's no weighting outside AP classes, they end with a very high GPA.
Major: Economics/Engineering
Recommendations: History Teacher and Physics teacher who did out of school competitions with us. They should be really good.
Essay: I'm confident I can write a good essay about the different environments I've been in, studying in three different countries.
PSAT: 207

Courseload: Most intensive in school. Graduating with 10 APs, counselor will make note of that and talk about the difficulty of my courseload.

AP Exams:

Sophomore:
AP Euro: 4
AP Comp Sci AB: 4

Junior:
AP BC Calc: 5
AB Subscore: 5
AP Chemistry: 5
AP American: 4
AP Physics C Mechanics: 3 (Yeah, I know, this one sucked)

Senior Year:
AP English Literature
AP Statistics
AP Physics C E/M
AP Spanish

SAT I (Superscored)
Math: 800
Reading: 710
Writing: 790 (11 essay)
Total: 1500/2300

SAT IIs:
Math IIC: 770
Chemistry: 790

Awards:
National Merit Commendation
2 Model UN Awards at different competitions
Lemelson-MIT InvenTeams Excite Award- Top 32 Teams
Moody's Mega Math 2008 Competition- Top 60 teams

EC's:
Co-President and Co-Founder of school's engineering club with above mentioned physics teacher
Vice President of Model UN club
Member of Quiz Bowl Team for 4 years
Played on school Tennis team for freshman and sophomore year, couldn't play in Junior year b/c of injuries
Indian Drums for 5 years (A previous topic I made said 4 but it's actually 5, my bad)
Worked at a mathematics center tutoring young kids for 3 years
Worked at the local public library for 3 years
Last year I did an internship at a Microfinance Organization. 6 days a week, 9 hours a day for a month. A pretty difficult experience, especially since I had to learn the language from scratch (I knew a different Indian language, but this region didn't speak it), but it was enriching and worth it. To see the lives some of the poor led is something I'll never forget, as well as the change amounts we'd consider miniscule can lead to.

Schools:
MIT (EA)
Columbia (ED)
Michigan (Early Response)
Northwestern
Georgetown
University of Chicago
Carnegie Mellon
University of Rochester
Binghamton
Cornell
George Washington University

I should probably say that even with my low stats, my counselor is pretty confident that GW, Rochester, Binghamton and Michigan are safeties b/c of our school.

My counselor also said he'll be willing to make a phone call to MIT's admissions department (if I really wanted it) in addition to his letter to try and explain my situation. Which would be awesome if he did.

Let me also say that MIT is my dream school, but due to my low stats my counselor and family convinced me to apply ED as well. Not that I have a great chance of getting into Columbia either, so it shouldn't make too much of a difference. I think the reason why MIT is my number one choice is the fit. We visited other top schools like Princeton and Harvard (my counselor said one or two long shots should be ok), but I never felt comfortable in the somewhat structured feeling the schools had. MIT felt so much relaxed, not academically, but in the way the student body and school viewed things, such as pranks and rivalries. I really felt comfortable in that sense. I'll probably write about this in my essay, but w/e.

Anyway, chances? Hope I didn't bore you to death.

One small qualification. The GPA is an academics only GPA, so no gym and stuff like that.

Forgot to mention, I’m male. >_>

And apparently I’ve got AP Scholar with Distinction. Yay?

22 Views and no responses? Is there anybody in there? Just nod if you can hear me…

Bump please.

Sorry, I won’t be of much help. But yeah, I think Binghamton is safety.

Obviously, Columbia and Cornell will be very tough. And Carnegie Mellon… Your SATs are really good and your ECs are awesome. Plus, diversity and several languages will definitely help.
