Applying Early Decision

Do I stand a chance? Please let me know what you think

Hmm, you either need to boost those SATs significantly, find a strong hook, or write an amazing essay. My advice would be to take the SATs again in December and apply for the regular decision..no matter how rigorous your courses were, low SATs will hurt you.

Thanks for your opinion. I really appreciate it. I am almost positive that I raised my SAT scores for the October 4th SAT, and I'll find out those new scores next week. I also feel like I wrote a very good essay for Middlebury. But I wish the best of luck to you this year when applying to colleges. Thanks again for your reply.

Do you go to McDonough or Gilman?

No I don't. Why do you ask?

Why do you suggest applying RD rather than ED? Won't ED improve my chances and show my dedication to Middlebury?

any other input? I would greatly appreciate it

"Raising your SATs" is a bit vague. How much? Because as of right now you have a score that's really low for Middlebury. An average Midd score is probably about a 2070-2100 or something like that.

I don't think there's a much better chance for ED than RD in Middlebury...the admission rates are similar, and the ED pool is most likely filled with recruits, legacies, and other well-prepared candidates. In all objectiveness, with your current stats, I'd say your chances are fairly slim, unless you have a good hook..your academics are below-average, and your ECs are typical for Midd. But you have taken rigorous courses, so the GPA may be excused, so try to get those SATs at least somewhere in the 2000s. With that, and great essays and recs, you have a chance.

hey.. can you guys confirm that ED is most likely for recruits, legacies, etc..? I just need to know cause I'm thinking of applying ED also. I'm simply thinking of going for ED since Midd is my 1st choice, but if they are not going to put 'level of interest' their primary factor to consider, then I guess I'm better off with RD..

yeah, that was my thought. I love both Midd and Dartmouth, but sooooooooo many kids from my school apply to the former that it's damn near impossible to get a spot. That's why I'm doing Dartmouth ED and Midd RD.

there really isnt all that much of a difference. the ED pool is more self selecting, hence the higher acceptance rate. the people chosen then are sure fits for RD.

First of all, I would like to thank all of you for your input. I really appreciate it. Second of all, are all of you applying to Midd for the Fall 2009 semester? Thirdly, I have been working on my essays for over a month now, and I feel as if they are very good. I also have two great teacher recs (One of whom is a Midd alum, and the other of whom is the nephew of the past Midd president). Will that help me at all?

You should try the ACT. I went from a 1930 Sat first try to a 34 ACT first try.

I was accepted at Middlebury ED. I applied ED because I could imagine no school I wanted to attend more than Midd. I was neither a recruit nor a legacy. All of you have to stop playing the angles when it comes to college admission. This has a huge impact on the rest of your life. Middlebury has guided my life and I'm thrilled that's where I ended up. That's how you should feel about wherever you apply ED.

i do feel that way urbanslaughter. Middlebury is the only place i want to be.
