Rice or Emory

I think it looks like I do too much but I was actually very involved in everything that I did.

For Rice, I have an interview will attend a open house in ATL and do an over-nighter

Essays
one will highlight my experience in Africa (which I think is prob the same way anyone would feel after going there, nothing too special accept the experience)

other how I have over come all the trouble and turmoil in my life and not let that stop me

So any chance??

bump, anyone please. Sorry if it's too long

Sounds fine.

You're in Rice. Can't say anything about financial aid...(haha) or Emory.

Good luck!

bump, anyone else??

bump, maybe i'll try again tomorrow

In at Rice too I think.

Emory = maybe -- you sound like a very interesting person that they would want to snatch right up.

I think you should also add a few more schools, just to be safe.

IMO Rice is harder to get into than Emory, though as Rice is expanding its undergrad enrollment it is probably a little easier right now than when my s was admitted. I have a delicate Q-- whose suicide did you survive? Are you saying someone else close to you suicided or did you have an attempt? The reason I ask is that sometimes it isnt the best plan to talk about a personal suicide attempt in an essay....

I survived my own. I just briefly mentioned it. I didnt dwell on the bad parts of my life too much. I tried to highlight the good as best as I could

Many feel that it is risky to allude to any history of self destructive behavior, no matter how explainable. Some schools are simply gun shy, and may prefer, with a large number of applicants, to keep their "risk" low. Please understand that I am in no way saying you are a risk, but these folks arend experts in mental health, and they had lots of variables to consider. If you havent sent the applications (the essay) out yet, you might want to consider really downplaying any past suicide attempt. They may see you as at risk for self harm under stress, even if you aren't
