Hey tofu33, I'd be happy to give you my take on your chances.

First, your stats. Your GPA and class rank are both fantastic and put you well within the range of the average student who is accepted to Vassar. I believe the average GPA for the freshman class was an A- (3.7, unweighted), so you're a very strong applicant based just on that. In addition, your classes sound suitably challenging.

Moving on, your SAT I score is solid. Your critical score and math scores are just about average for last year's class that chose to attend the school: I believe the average critical reading score was 703 & the average math score was a 683. That being said, your writing score is a bit lower than ideal: the average writing score for the class of 2012 who chose to come to Vassar was 697. I found in my own experience taking the SAT that my writing score shot up the second time I took the exam (I went from a 620 to a 710), so hopefully something similar will happen with you. Lastly, your Chinese SAT II is obviously excellent while your Biology is so-so. I don't think it's going to affect things that much (after all, 640 isn't a bad score in the least), but I would urge you to think about taking another SAT II in a different subject. Ideally, a score around 700 would be stronger. That being said, don't stress if you can't take another score... as I said before, I don't think the biology will hurt you that much.

Your extracurriculars are also quite solid in that you have a nice mix of community service, scholastic pursuits, athletic involvements, and artistic endeavors. Are you planning on submitting a music supplement or using the YourSpace to highlight your abilities as a pianist? If not, I would recommend you consider doing so: it's a good way to set yourself apart from other applicants.

Overall, I would say your chances stand a semi-reach. You're a strong applicant... what you need to make sure you do is set yourself apart from all the other strong, well-rounded applicants out there who are also applying to Vassar. Best of luck!

Ok, I thought my son had a pretty good chance at ED1, however his first quarter senior grades came in and they are lack luster, so now we are concerned. our school doesnt give + and - during quarters

Thanks for your imput littleathiest!
i actually got a 640 in the critical reading and 710 in writing, which makes my CR quite a bit below average. ><

I just got my results from the november math 2 subject test. i got a 690
is there a difference between sending a music supplement it as a yourspace or as an art supplement?

Sending in a Vassar Arts Submission form (guidelines are here: Vassar College || Guidelines For Optional Art Submissions) means that you're requesting that the appropriate Vassar faculty members review your music, art, dance, etc. On the other hand, submitting music through the Your Space means that it will only be reviewed by the admissions office and will not be turned over to the music department.

PS... sorry for the confusion about your SAT I score; I'm used to seeing it with the writing score listed last and apparently read it wrong.
