Chance me please!

Hi, I am a new member so i am not sure if this would be the right place to ask this but, I have a 27 and a 3.01 unweighted GPA what are my chances to get into MSU?

Your stats look good. I am from Michigan myself and have many friends going there with similar or worse stats. However, are you out of state? I know at many public schools such as MSU they favor students from in state

not to be a downer but I got deferred with a 3.35 and 27....In state

mak53 do you think you have an ideal why you were deferred?
Also any other universities you got accepted into?

KP33, your have a high ACT score but your GPA falls below MSU average. Compared to other acceptances I've seen your chances may be decent... but with mak53 post... it's hard to say.

I got in with a 27 ACT but with a higher GPA. I am also out of state and applied REALLY early.

I think that it may hurt your chances applying so late, but your stats are not that bad for state. How do your semester grades look?

Whole bunch of my friends have been deferred lately with 27 ACTs and 3.5s. MSU is tightening it's belt.

Are you sure a lot of them had those stats? From recent post online students got in with 3.0 and 23 ACT.

Yeah actually they did Coolbrezze... except they applied in late November and December. I know kids with 3.0s and Mid 20 ACTs that got in but they applied in early September. It just goes to show you how greatly time can reduce your chances.

Right, I'll try to apply to about 2 or more universities in late August or September.

I'm a junior, and im gonna apply in september or late august...just throwing that out there...

So you still have time to bring your GPA up, and re-take ACT... but your score looks good.

I think if I knew your class schedule I may have a better ideal of a guess.

Coolbreeze-I got into Indiana, Alabama, West Virginia, and Central Michigan. Waiting on Tennessee. The only thing I can think of is something with the amount of students they accepted at my school, even though that doesn't really make sense. I think I have mentioned it in previous threads but some other people that have gotten deferred from my school had like 3.3 30 ACT and 3.5 27 ACT, so that is the only thing that makes somewhat sense to me considering kids from other schools are getting in with 3.2 23 and stuff like that.

I know someone with a 3.2 and 27 ACT who got in, but my friend with a 3.1 and 33 ACT got deferred. I don't get how they're selecting people...

Honestly, people who apply earlier have a greater chance of getting in. I have a friend that got "deferred" (they asked to see her semester grades, I assume that means deferred) with a 3.5 34 ACT when I had a 3.7 and 27 ACT and I received a scholarship. The biggest difference between us is that I applied in Sept and she applied in Dec. TIME MATTERS!! If I can offer you any advice I would say to apply as soon as you possibly can and get to your counselors asap about transcripts. Just get it done! You'll feel so much better when you hear by November if you got in..

Yeah, I'll most likely apply to Michigan State University in September.

-Not August because applications come out late August, plus I will need to get into contact with my counsler for transcript etc... and my school doesn't start until September.

Still surprising that one with a 3.5 and 34 ACT was rejected... perhaps did they have a large drop in GPA junior year?

The 3.5 was weighted and I don't think there was a significant drop. I think it was due to the fact that she applied so late and was from out of state.

Yeah MSU seems to have stiffened its academic standards over the last couple years. A 3.2-3.3 GPA + a decent-to-good ACT score used to be an-almost-definite in. Now the average GPA at MSU is 3.6...so you really never know for sure
