chance me please!

i've been looking around here lately and decided why not to ask for a chance. however here is a little back story. i am currently a sophmore now at new trier with a 3.64 gpa which i should raise to either a 3.68 or 3.7 at the end of 2nd semester hopefully. but as freshman i went a jesuit high school school in chicago and i got 2.5 gpa. i went from about a 2.1 gpa first semester to a 2.9 second semester. the reason why i had such a low gpa was that i was taveling everyday from indiana to downtown chicago which took about and 1.5 half each way and i was just dead tired from just the school day, EC's and the drive. i plan on raising my gpa at new trier even more so to a 3.7 or 3.75 during my junior year. so i was wondering how much is my freshmen gpa going to hurt me in terms of admission to usc or will the look at my upward grade trend more so?

EC: basketball, track, middle passage, community serivce, and camp counselor at a day camp for little kids. i also am going to get even more invvled next year with clubs

Junior Year Schdule: alg 2, AP US Hist, Chem, Spanish 3, English but i may try to get into Ap English Language, if thats a good idea?

Test scores: PLAN test was around a 27 composite score

i also know i am only a sophmore and a lot can change in terms of gpa and test scores, but i was wondering do i even have a realistic shot at USC in 2 years? haha. thanks for taking time to read my story!

Bump bump…anyone pleasee?:)

I have a realistic shot and I had a 1.8 frosh year. You’ve still got a while, just do your best.

all, i’m going to say is that usc does put lots of emphasis on GPA and sat scores. try to be in their average ranges or higher.

will being an urm give me an extra boost or help?

What is an urm?

Of course you have a shot. You will show a great upward trend (your grades improving even as you take harder classes) and you can explain your commute issues in a short essay so the adcom will see your Frosh grades in context. Meanwhile, you are now attending a very highly regarded high school, so doing well at New Trier will mean a lot. URM (Underrepresented Minority) is always helpful since many great universities look to enroll a diverse class who show they can perform well in college. Make sure you take challenging courses in the coming years, and do well. Your attitude is great.

You don’t mention your intended major at USC and the different schools can be more competitive, so that will affect admissions, too. Best of luck.
