chance me please :)

<p>I visited Yale over the spring break and I totally fell in love with it :)
And I want to know if the school is too much of a reach for me</p>

<p>So, please chance me if it is absolutely impossible or if I have a chance to get in!</p>

<p>I'm a junior, Asian (Korean), and an international student (no citizenship or greencard) attending Catholic private school in America. I came to America about 3 years ago, and seriously I love it !!</p>

<p>Our school is very strong in sports but most of the students are weak in math and science.
Also, there are not many international students, or even Asians, in my school. In my grade there are only about 15 or so Asians out of 670, and only 7 or so of them are international.</p>

<p>GPA: I was 3rd out of 670 this year. I don't know the exact gpa, but it should be over 4.0.
out of 100, I have 102 (weighted)
SAT1:2130 (1st time), taking it again next year because I didn't get to study for the one that I took. (I was actually surprised I got over 2100), So, if I study enough over the summer, I'm expecting at least 2200 and even near or over 2300.
SAT2: Math level 2 (800), I'm taking Chem, Physics, and US History in June
AP: Euro (5), AP Cal AB (5),
currently taking: AP Physics B, AP Calculus BC, AP US History
Awards: none other than several I received from school
(Does National Latin Exam count?? I got a perfect score on that ...)
EC:
Track and field (10,11,12)
-Sophomore league championship
-Varisity Catholic league championship (I forgot the exact name...)
(for these, I was not at the meet cuz I was sick on that day, so I guess it doesn't really count; I'm not a good runner so it doesn't matter anyway lol)
Math club (president, 9,10,11,12)
Science Club (9,10,11,12)
several volunteering clubs (all 9,10,11,12)
Orchestra (9,10,11,12)
School's leadership team (12)
Model UN club (founder, president: 11,12)
Newspaper club (9,10,11,12: layout editor)
NHS (11,12)
School's website association (it's like news website) (12, Website designer)</p>

<p>(The ones with "12" : it just means that I'm 100% sure I'll be doing them next year)</p>

<p>Outside school:
-Harvard Summer Program (summer before junior year)
-Columbia Science Honors Program
-Cancer Research with a professor at Columbia Medical school--he is pretty famous (I got lucky :) )--doing it this summer (I hope this would be a great asset for me cuz nobody in my school did any research before --NEVER done it before. And I hope to enter Intel STS or Intel Siemens next year)
-Volunteering work at "Leukemia society" where we fundraise for people who has leukemia and I also volunteer for an association where we help people who has autism and mental disability--> I started in my sophomore year for both volunteering work
-I take flute lessons --I may join Chamber music program over the summer (it's like a small orchestra)</p>

<hr>

<p>I might run for Student Council next year for 12th grade representative position (but I don't think I'll get it... very low chance)</p>

<p>And I'm planning to make a ensemble this summer with my friends: We'll be playing and recording some famous songs from movies and make it into a CD, or perform it as a volunteering work. If we make a CD, we'll be selling it to fundraise for "Leukemia Society"--one of my classmates died of leukemia last week :(</p>

<hr>

<p>Thanks so much for chancing me :)
I'll chance you guys back !!</p>

<p>I think you have good ECs. Just raise that SAT score, and you are good to go…</p>

<p>except…are you going to be applying as an international?</p>

<p>yes, unfortunately because I don’t have green card or citizenship here :(</p>

<p>bump…</p>

<p>interesting you are from long island, i am as well and applied international (korean) and got into Yale RD. PM me and we can talk (i came here 6 years ago, i speak korean).</p>

<p>I’ll be nicer to you, as you’re actually taking advice, unlike what I did to that ■■■■■■■■ guy from another thread. I actually believe you’ll be able to up your SAT scores, which is a plus. Your grades are fine, and you’re doing APs. It was kind of unclear how much of an impact you made in your ECs, and as you mentioned you aren’t a “good runner,” so I don’t see how track + field can really help that much. Also, you seem to be doing a lot of ECs, but you don’t really have THAT many leadership positions. Try to consolidate a little bit and try to get more positions.</p>

<p>thanks for all the comments.
And, stoompy312, I agree with you, I don’t think track and field is going to help me at all.
But I still want to do it until senior year because I don’t want to quit in the middle.
I think I need more leadership as well, something like student council
but it’s really hard for me. I ran for executive board for NHS and I didn’t get it.
And one of my friend became president of Student Council this year, so I asked him to put my name down as a candidate for Student Council Executive Board (in my school the president gets to choose who is gonna be in the board) but I didn’t get that either.
I just hope that being founder and president of Model UN club is going to help me with my leadership. It was really hard for me to make it happen. NOBODY knows about Model UN in my school, not even teachers, and basically I had to start from scratch without anyone helping me. Other kids were not motivated even if I tried to motivate them. But, I worked out all the financial problems we had, and we are going to the Model UN conference in NYC next year. I want to show my leadership from this experience somehow, like by winning an award at the conference or putting it in an essay… does this help me out??
Oh, and CCPWNZ, thanks, I’ll PM you soon :)</p>

<p>■■■■■■■■ guy = columbia 012? HAHAHAHAHAHAHA</p>

<p>The summer programs you participated in aren’t special. They are cash cows for those schools. I would focus on your other work, unless the classes you took at those summer programs changed your major plans or something.</p>

<p>Columbia109… yes. hahahaa</p>
