Chance me, please. :)

Kay, so... I want to get into the following schools, and yes, they tend to be the most competitive:
Phillips Exeter
Phillips Andover
Hotchkiss
Choate Rosemary
Peddie
Maine School of Science and Mathematics
Stuyvesant

Im in eighth grade, applying for tenth grade, which is more competitive then applying for ninth grade.

English- A-(94)
Math(Geometry, I'm in math two grades ahead of everyone else)- B-(sadly..85)
Social Studies/History- A+ (99)
Science- A+ (100)
Spanish- A+ (107)

EC's:

Big Brother Big Sister
Breakfast Book Club
Civil Rights Team
Gay Straight Alliance (im straight...)
Journalism/Literacy Magazine
Kick Off Mentor
Spanish Club
Mock Trial
Student Council
Recycling Team
Yearbook committee
Speech and Debate
Youth Court
Unity Project

I play Field Hockey, Basketball, Tennis and Golf.
I am very involved with the poetry scene in my state and compete in poetry slams, so I have some "art" in my EC's.

I volunteer at the library, a gardening organization, a non-profit art organization and Advocates for children.

I have not taking the SSAT's yet, but I have taking a standardized test that all 4th-8th graders must take, and I got in the 90th percentile for Reading, 99th percentile for math and 95th percentile for science. Though these scores aren't going to help me...

For my essays, I know they'll be okay maybe great becaus writing is my passion. Thoguh I am ten times better in Math.

My teachers really like me this year, I honestly like am BFF's w/ them LOL. And they show off my test grades and project to all of their other students, so hopefully my teachers next year will be the same!

I am have a bubbly personality and I'm wicked persuasive so...ehh, I'll be iight in the interview.

I am an under represented minority and I completely believe there is no person of y race that goes to any of these schools, for most of my people are poor and encouraged. I am great on speaking on this issue just in case they speak about race/culture.

Thank you so much!

P.S, how do I delete threads, im kinda new?

Oh! Btw, I dance hip hop and can speak three languages, and am learning my fourth…

thanks soooo much!

I’m so grateful for yall!

please don’t say anything mean because all I want is to know my chances of going into these schools, I care sooo much for my education, and don’t say im bragging b/c I hate that.

I also am applying to:

The Lawrenceville School
The Loomis Chaffee School
Dana Hall School
Milton Academy

Miss Porter’s School
Middlesex

are you applying for a grade skip?

why do you want to skip a grade anyway?

yeah. i think you should apply for 9th grade.
and you may want to narrow your search down from 13 schools so you can focus on the few you like the most

no, i am going to be going to a public school for my freshman year, than will be applying to these schools for sophomore year. But, these are my current 8th grade grades

I really am not too familiar with prep school admissions, but your resume is fairly ridiculous. I would say you have a good shot getting in, but even if you don’t, your resume, if you keep it up, should get you into a top-tier school. Good luck in HS.

I think you have a really great chance, but so do many other people. It’s sometimes a matter of not WHO they’re looking for, but WHAT they’re looking for.

And I also agree with MilkandCookies-- I think you should narrow down some of those schools. Preferably to about 7 or 8, at least.

Do you mean Stuyvesant in New York City? That is a very competitive public day school for New York City residents that requires a special exam, so I am not sure how someone from New England could gain admittance there.

If your heart is set on attending a boarding school, you should also find one or two that you like that are not quite as selective in admittance, yet will still offer you a wonderful education.

Well, besides the math grade…even though you are in geo, (cuz there are a ton of people in much higher math classes) I think you have a pretty good chance of getting in.

My question’s the same as BrooklynGuy’s… isn’t Stuyvesant a day school in New York?

haha, yes. I was aware of that. Though I am from Nw England I recently moved to New York. I hope that clears up all ze confusion!

but, what do you say for my chances of getting into these schools?

your ECs and your grades are more than enough, but i think you should work on your reading, since i’m assuming that 90th percentile is national? i got 92 or 93rd national percentile for reading, yet a um… bad, bad percentile on the SSATs… heh. so yeah, that’s something to think about. :stuck_out_tongue: you can PM me if you want the exact percentile.

so right now i’d advise you to keep your grades up, work on reading, buy some SSAT prep books, and nail your interview!
i think you definitely have a chance, haha. that is, if your SSATs and your interviews and your recommendations go well. good luck!

You have a chance, Good luck.

Come on CollegeConfidential as much as possible in the coming months, paying particular attention to the Chances forum. There will be kids who look so good on paper that you will feel so damn inadequate that you will feel compelled to work even harder on your applications. Take my word for it - it worked for me.

There were so many kids who spoke four languages, had straight As, and played sports at the national level that I felt for sure that I had no chance at any of my schools. Seeing these people’s posts will motivate you to try even harder than you normally would.

Yeah I agree with everyone else you need to cut down your school choices. I also agree with everyone else you have a great shot getting into a lot of these schools. You should go to the websites, go on campus visits, and also request informations about these school to get a good feel of where you want to go the most.

By just looking at your resume, it looks like you have a good chance.
I think that you should work on your math grade a bit this coming fall.
Do you have a particular passion?
If you do, it’d be great to talk a lot about that in your interviews and write about that in a few of your essays.

Good luck!
