Chance me? :) Please

Hi, I'm Jessy, and I'll be a senior as of monday.
I rank 7th (if not higher) in my class of 585 students at my school in Southern California.
My UC GPA is 4.2
Weighted is 4.55 (I thought this was lower but this is what my councelor told me)
and Unweighted is 3.91

I've gotten a single B between the two semesters each year, so straight A's one semester and one B the other. It kills me. Lol.

I've taken the following AP classes
AP Biology (5)
AP World History (4)
AP US History (5)
AP English Language (4)
AP French Language (teacher was bad so I skipped the test)
and I'm taking AP Calc AB, AP Gov, and AP Art History next year.

I've also taken a handful of honors and accelerated classes.

I'm a four-year varsity track and field runner,
and played tennis last year (JV), and will probably play varsity this year.

I have 109 community service hours consisting of :
75 hours campaigning for the Democratic party my freshman year
a handful from coaching track and field for the Special Olympic atheletes
and the rest from taking care of autistic classes during parent/teacher trainings at a nearby elementary school. Plan on doing more of that

Not big on clubs, although I should be...only one year of Interact Club freshman year.

My SAT scores aren't so high, but I'm retaking them come fall
1830 (590 math, 590 reading, 650 writing, 11 essay)
600 Math 2, 630 Biology subjects.
ACT: 29
I hope to major in biology, I don't know which field yet, possible molecular or marine.
This isn't my top UC choice since I live in SD, and it's too close to home, but I'm considering it :)

senior as of monday? your school year starts this early? O_O
well to be on topic…you have a very good chance of getting in. I’d say SD would be a safety for you

^Yeah. New modified school year.Jipped us of HALF our summer.

Jessy -

Completely off topic here, but I thought I’d share with you something I literally learned myself a week ago. Apparently “jipped” is actually a racist term about nomadic gypsies - it’s a reference to the stereotype that they would steal from or cheat people. (It was originally spelled “gypped”)

I’ve used it hundreds of times without knowing that, and I felt bad once I found out. Just an FYI, and I know you didn’t mean it that way at all.

That said, your grades are great. Keep it up your senior year and you should have no problem whatsoever with getting in.

Being ranked 7th already puts you in the ELC which basically guarantees you getting into UCSD. See you in a couple years (unless you aim higher) BTW go for Warren (my college) as your first choice.

TroyS- Haha thanks for the information, both academic and otherwise :)! I won’t be using that term anymore.
HonestJoseph- I’m looking at UCSB I think for their marine program, but things change, right ? Thanks for the reassuring words :)

you have a good chance of getting in. Alot of my friends got about a 1800 and got in still.
*and let’s just say their race didn’t necessarily work towards their advantage.

I got in with a 1660 on SAT and 650/550 on USH/Bio(M). Lol.

you’re in.
