Chance me please?

Hi,
I'm a white male from a large and competitive public high school in Michigan. I'll be a senior this year. I would love to go to Georgetown, but I know it's incredibly hard to get into.

GPA: UW: 3.79 W: 4.17. A strong upward curve throughout my three years (basically, a 3.6 UW freshman year 3.8 sophomore and 4.0 junior).
Rank: School doesn't rank
SAT I: 2150 (690 CR, 720 M, 740 W, 11 Essay)
SAT II's: Taking in October
ACT: 31
Courses: The hardest courses possible. I've taken 16 semesters of honors classes and 6 semesters of AP classes (All 3 AP classes taken junior year). I'm taking 5 AP classes next year (AP Calc AB, AP Euro History, AP French, AP Psychology, and AP Literature)
AP Exams: AP US History (5), AP Lang (5), AP Biology (5)

EC's:
Co-founder/VP Chinese Club
Deacon (leadership position, only 2 spots available for youth) at my (Presbyterian) church.
Lead youth carillon (i.e., an instrument similar to a piano except it uses pedals and bells) player for church services.
Latin Club
Michigan Junior Classical League Latin Quizbowl winner
French Club
JV Tennis 2 years
Squash club player 4 years
French National Honors Society
Month-long independent summer exchange with a French family
2 Superior ratings at piano festivals (National Federation of Music Clubs)
Service drive for used eyeglasses for the needy in impoverished countries, 2 week-long mission trips, soup kitchen, -
And a variety of other community service.

Work experience:
Computer basic support for elderly citizens
Assistant to a professional gardener

I'm a good writer and my teacher recommendations should be good.

Thanks for any input, I really appreciate it!

Why did you found a Chinese Club and you’re a white guy from michigin?

The above post is ridiculous. You don’t have to be Chinese to like Chinese culture. That kind of mindset is ignorant and a bit offensive really.

But onto your chances for Georgetown, I think your community service/job work can really make up for that slightly less than top SAT score. Other than that you stand a really good shot! Any idea which school you are applying to?

limabeans:

That doesn’t really answer my question… but it was because I enjoyed Chinese class, liked my teacher (who herself was Chinese) and agreed to found it along with someone else since nobody else had done it. Plus I’m interested in Asian culture (no, not anime) to begin with, having visited Hong Kong and Indonesia a couple times.

Croissant:

Agreed. And I’m applying to the Walsh School of Foreign Service. I thought my SAT scores were decent enough, and I was considering retaking it but unfortunately I can’t since it’s offered the same day as the SAT II’s in October. Thanks for the input though!

Now, now Croissant:…I wasn’t trying to sound racist. I’m always trying to uncover a kid’s hook, especially when they ask about his/her chances. So, it does answer the question. It’s not usual that a white kid is a founder of a Chinese club, and that’s the stuff that makes you stand out. Your numbers do not. if you only wanted to know chances, then go look in one of those big books, college board, or some other source to see the statistical chance of getting in, based on those numbers. If you include that interesting detail about the Chinese club, you have a story.
