Chance me, Please!

African-American female. Average high school. The school has a four-year academically rigorous program which I am in. I don't know how much this is a factor. You'll find that I don't know a lot of things. I'm basically a bit ignorant about the college application process.
Anyway, the program requires at least 200 hours of volunteer work, at least one competitive activity every year, and at least a 2.5 average between math and science, as well as a few classes in leadership. Only students in this program get to take Dual Enrollment courses.

GPA: 3.3 UW, slight upward trend in grades
I live in VA so the grading scale is a little harder than some others.
A: 100-93
B: 92-86
C: 85-77
D: 76-68

SAT: I take it in October, so I don't know yet (sorry).
From the last PSAT, I got a 219 (74 CR, 68 M, 77 W)

6 AP's (including senior year):
APUSH--5
AP Euro--4
AP Psych--5
AP Lang--4
AP Lit. (currently taking)
AP Gov (currently taking)

4 Dual Enrollment Courses with the local community college:
Calculus I & II (currently taking II)
Chemistry
Physics (currently taking)

All other core academic courses are honors.
I also took 4 years of French.

EC's:
Debate Team (all four years)
Art Club (11&12)
Book Club (I don't know if this counts, 10, 11, & 12)

I have about 250 hours of volunteer work (mostly from elementary schools in my area, some with social services, and some from Relay for Life, which I did for 9th and 10th grade.)

Awards:
NMSF
Most outstanding student in Dual Enrollment Chem and APUSH (Don't know how much that matters)--11th grade
District champion in debate, 2008
AP Scholar w/ Honor (I know that doesn't matter much)

I'm a pretty good writer and I'm working hard on my essays so I expect them to be at least above average.
Teacher Rec's should be glowing.
Guidance Counselor....not so much. He just got here last year and seems to be overwhelmed. Not many of the students have had the chance to get to know him, including me. So I don't know what to expect.

I know American considers applicant interest in admissions, so I plan to take a tour in November. While I'm there, I may visit all the other colleges I'm considering in the DC area, which is the vast majority of them.

Schools:
American University (currently my 1st choice)
Howard University
George Mason University
University of Maryland--College Park
Georgetown
Penn State--University Park
Norfolk State University (Local college as a definite safety. Not trying to brag, but it'd be a miracle if I weren't accepted to this school.)

Major: International Studies/Political Science

That's about all I can think of at the moment. Sorry, I can't chance anyone else. I really wouldn't know what I'm talking about.
