Please tell me my chances. much thanks

er, sorry.

Weighted GPA - 4.28
Unweighted GPA - 3.67

The GPA is around average, but the ACT and SAT II’s are very good. Your classes look good. I’d say you’re a match.

I would apply by November 1 to make sure you qualify for the PSP program. You have a good chance for a scholarship (half or full).

Are you serious? I thought it would be like a reach school…mostly because I’m oos and all, but my GPA isnt great either.

I’m pretty sure that there are a lot of people with higher gpa/class rank than me though…?

Tech seems to favor test scores over GPA, and given that admission is highly stats oriented, I’d say you’re in.

You are below average on GPA and Rank, but slightly below average. Meanwhile your test scores are outstanding. Your ACT and SATII’s are in the upper quartile for Stanford.

Other than MIT and Stanford, you’ll have a lot of trouble finding a reach school with those scores.

thanks for the input guys you’ve been relieving a lot of stress, I just have one last question

I just checked GTech’s admissions site, and they say that they recalculate the GPA based on only core curriculum classes (math, science, english, social studies, foreign language) on a 4.0 scale and if the class is weighted they add 0.5 points to that class. I just calculated my GTech GPA, and it turned out to be a 3.97.

their website says “Last year the competitive range (mid-50%) of high school GPAs was 3.67-4.04”

Is that range the GTech GPA then? and if so, am I not that far behind?

please let me know!! thanks

bump 10char

you’re in don’t sweat. read burdell posts.

…are you kidding me, you are set for GaTech.
number one, they love IB kids…I dont know why, but they do
number two your gpa and rank are fine…I have seen kids get in with way lower stats than yours.

But listen to Burdell on the PSP, cause you do have a shot.

hey jimmy, I just read one of your posts earlier. You applied to GTech already or no? And how do u know about the IB kids and ppl getting in with lower stats?

let me know man

don’t even apply, its a waste of money. You have no chance

Nah, JK lol. Seriously, GAtech isn’t that hard to get into; they’ll accept pretty much anyone with decent grades in math science and high SAT scores. Remember, they have like a 60% acceptance rate. I’d say you can count on being accepted.

If by “decent” you mean a 2000+ SAT and 3.8+ GPA, then I agree with you.

“decent” is probably 1850+ SAT and 3.4-3.5+ gpa with a hard course load, combined with sufficient extracurriculars and an intelligible essay

2000+ SAT and a 3.8+ GPA would have to be a lock unless there are discipline issues or you blow off the essay and never visit the campus, etc.

My son is a freshman this year at GT. He was told by school admin that the “AVERAGE” incoming student is 3.8 GPA (unweighted) and almost 1400 SAT (out of 1600). FYI.

That student would not get in. 1350/1600 SAT and a 3.7 UWGPA is borderline. GPA’s in the 3.6’s and lower are below average and SAT’s in the low 1300’s are below average.

such students get in all the time, if they carried a challenging course load in high school:
http://■■■■■■■.com/ych7erm

the 25th percentile for GPA of admitted students is 3.67, and the 25th percentile for SAT is 1920/2400 - 1310/1600:
<a href=“Blow the Whistle! (404 error: page not found) | Undergraduate Admission”>Blow the Whistle! (404 error: page not found) | Undergraduate Admission;

about 20% of the admitted class (not counting special admits like athletes, etc.) have numbers below these cutoffs, and may more are accepted and choose to go elsewhere (because of GT’s tough reputation, the “ratio”, etc.)

also, the GT admissions counselor said that the gpa floor for freshman admissions was about 3.4 at the information session, the important thing is that students have a challenging course load and pay attential to all elements of the application (including the essay), students with higher gpas will get rejected if they do not have a rigorous schedule and have SATs south of 1800

point is, below average numbers are not a disqualifier for admission, half the admitted students are below average relative to their entering class for the freshman index

Damn…so my GPA is in the 25% percentile…D= but my ACT is 35…Does that barely equal it out?

your in. in fact with those scores you could probably get in elsewhere.

all right, thanks swan. I sent in my app, and now I’m just waiting nervously haha.
