I LOVE BROWN, Brown is my first choice and it’s my ED.

Asian/female.
I go to a public school that was in the top ten “Best High Schools” according to U.S. News
My school sends 5-7 students each year to Ivy league or similar like MIT
GPA: 3.89 (out of 4.0)
Rank: my school doesn’t do rankings

Test Scores:

ACT: 33 composite
31 English
34 Math
34 Science
32 Reading

SAT subject tests:
740 Physics
770 Math Level II

Education:
I am currently taking 7 IB classes (IB is similar to AP except they are completed in two years (Junior and Senior year) and include internal assessments [labs, language orals, mathematical modeling] so that the final grade is not only the one final test)
IB English
IB History
IB Physics
IB Biology
IB Higher Level Mathematics
IB Music
IB Spanish
Everyone takes 6 IBs and the maximum anyone can take is 7. However, there are requirements that I had to meet so that I could take 7 IBs and only 2% of people each year take seven IBs.

Extracurriculars:
Forensics Team Board Member (voted in)
NHS Board Member (voted in)
SHS (Spanish Honors Society) Board Member (voted in)
String Quartet Leader (voted in)
Principal Chair for 2nd Violins of my county’s youth orchestra (auditioned into)
I also volunteer at my church each week with the children programs.
Piano/Violin Performer (as in I take lessons and play in concerts)

Honors:
My poem was published in a book.
6-7 District/State Solo and Ensemble medals

Teacher Recs:
Physics and Biology teachers. I believe both were good

Essays:
Looking back at them, I realize that I should have fixed a few things, but overall, I think they were good.

Interview:
It went very well (almost 2 hours though… I’m not sure if this is good or bad)
The interviewer said that I was a great fit for Brown.

Do I have a low/medium/high chance of getting in?

As ED day is next Monday… I’m getting really anxious haha
I know chance threads arn’t very accurate, but could anyone chance me? (we’ll see very soon if you’re accurate or not haha).

so, accepted, deferred, or rejected? (and why?)
and you can be as harsh as you’d like.

you published your poems? that’s so cool. I wanted to do sth like that. I think you are a strong applicant. and I Know that you are NOT gonna get rejected. there’s no way you are gonna get denied. If you do, then sth is wrong w/ admissions…
Good luck! (although I shouldn’t be saying this cuz I applied for ED as well… lol…jkjk)

Woohoo, a fellow seven-subjects-er!
Did you send your predicted grades?
Is your seventh subject HL or SL?
Btw I read in another thread that you’ll be doing a chem internal assessment when results come out, but chemistry isn’t on your list. I hate chemistry.
I’d say that you’re a strong applicant for sure.

You have a really really really hard courseload, and good standardized test scores. Definitely in-range for any Ivy League school.

Extracurriculars are kind of generic though… not to be racist, but almost every Asian I know plays piano and/or violin. That’s not going to stand out.

(Sorry if that last part came off as really *****y, but you said “be as harsh as you like” haha)

yeah I know about the asian sterotype of piano + violin haha >> hopefully I’ll still have some small chance of getting in >< I really don’t have anything that really stands out. I’m like a perfect example of a “well-rounded student”… who colleges don’t really care about =/

also about the chem internal assessment haha… I meant bio internal assessment. I was talking to a friend about his chem internal assessment while typing that XD. opps.

oh and… my seventh IB subject is HL Bio. I’m taking 4 HLs and I did not send in my IB predicted grades. My school said that they’re only for international schools

I think you have a great shot. Your GPA is a TAD bit on the lower end, but it’s definitely within range. Especially if you’re from a great school. I heard Brown loves IB so hopefully that helps! (me too… haha) The fact that your poem is published helps a lot as well. Your ECs are, yes a little generic, but still… I know a lot of people who get into great schools with the “typical Asian” application. Goodness, it scares me seeing all the great applicants on here…

Having that GPA without a ranking may throw off the perspective.

I will go ahead and assume, with your academic talent, that you are in the top %1-2 of your class? Not knowing that, and with <3.9 GPA might taint the adcom’s image of your performance in school.

Those who claim a 3.89 GPA to be on the low side have no understanding of the IB Programme. She is taking the most difficult courses possible. Brown knows that. As long as the 3.89 is not already weighted, I think your GPA is fantastic and you have good test scores. Unfortunately, the majority of applicants will have a good GPA and good test scores, so they become less important as a determining factor. If your essays are unique and well written, I do not see why they would flat out reject you. Having said that, there is no way to know. People with an even better profile get rejected every year. Good luck.

Thank you all for chancing me =) I FIND OUT TOMORROWWWW! (so excited/nervous/anxious) Seeing all the stuff that other CC people have done is really intimidating haha…

My gpa is unweighted. I’ve heard a rumor that for IB students, we add 0.5 to our unweighted gpa? I’m not sure exactly how this works but if this is true, then my weighted gpa would be 4.39.
