Chance me please :(

-GPA: 3.24 UW, 3.85 W

-SAT Scores: CR - 510, Math - 640, Writing - 520

-ACT: 21 (sadly, this was sent too...): ) I hope this doesn't affect their first impression

-My essays were really good, imo.

-Instate

-2 AP classes taken total: AP World and AP Psych. Most academic classes starting sophomore year were honors.

-Major in business

-English as second language (which I guess explains my critical reading and writing section?)

-Graphic Designer for AOIT, as well as the school's main website, competed in FBLA, have 260 SSL hours, intern as a graphic designer..etc.

What are my chances?? ):

I think your ACT and SAT CR are going to hurt, however, they will probably take the 1130 over the ACT which will help. Your internship will also help. I would say it is not a definite match, but a slight reach for In-State. It all depends on how many applications they get from IS this yr, if it is another record breaking yr like the past 2 it will be more competitive. The good news is UMDCP is taking 75% from IS this yr compared to 70% from yrs previous. If you said OOS from NJ, it would have been spring admit 11 at best.

Aww my hopes just keeps going down. 1150/1600 is pretty bad right?

Thank you for your response :D

In the grand scheme of things, 1150/1600 is really fine. It’s just that the competition applying at UMDCP is greater every year, especially as the value of in-state tuition figures in for people who may otherwise consider a pricey private university somewhere. I agree that your internship will probably help. We’ll keep our fingers crossed!

Aww, that’s really kind (: Thanks! I think I have a 50/50 chance at this. It’s the only school I applied to so I’m going to keep hoping :P

Why didn’t you apply to any other schools?

If you’re applying into the Business School (because you say you’re a Business major) I say definitely no.
Why don’t you apply to Towson? It seems to be popular. I live in NJ and lots of kids go there (and pay the OOS rate).

yea not a smart move. This school’s only 50/50 as you say. Get a school thats 100% in.

Ditto that. You should certainly have a “Plan B” in mind, only if it is going to a CC for a year or two and then transferring to UMD or ??? In that case, they will be looking at your post-high school grades, etc. If your heart is set on a 4-yr campus, then you certainly need to apply to another school within your budget (and for which your h.s.grades and test scores fall within their norm for acceptance).

Oh, if I don’t get into CP, my last resort is MC. My parents want me to commute, and come home everyday. They want me to either go to College Park or Mont. college, which is fine with me. I’ll just transfer after two years. I was just wondering the chance of me getting into CP. Thanks guys (:

One question. My ACT score is really low, and it was sent. Do you think that it will affect their decision when they look at the score? Should I call in to have to remove it from files?

They will take whichever is a higher score, in your case it is the SAT.

But they still see it. Psychologically, it still hurts the first impression.

I guess it’s a bit too late now though regardless? do they even allow you to pull stuff out of your files now?

if you went to my school, people would wonder why the hell you’d apply to umcp priority.
if it’s for the honors program, you don’t deserve it and your chances do not look that great.

for the sake of the school’s prestige, i’m sort of hoping you don’t get in. sorry.

It’s allll gooood. haha I applied, just to apply. It really isn’t even the best choice for my career path. I did apply to a couple of other schools. If I get accepted, great. If I don’t, it’s whatever.

Thanks.
