Chance me, Please

<p>Hi, I'm currently ranked #1 in my school and have a 4.0 GPA but am in an odd situation.
My SATs aren't too great (800 Math, 640 reading, 610 writing), but I'm not sure if the two English sections are weak because I have been involved in the IB program since 4th grade which doesn't really concentrate on the same areas of the language as AP and College Board do.
Currently, for IB, I'm taking a tremendous amount of classes junior and senior year:
IB Math SL/HL-expect a 7*
IB Further Math SL-expect a 6 or a 7
IB English HL-expect a 6 or a 7*
IB French SL-expect a 5 or a 6*
IB Chemistry HL-expect a 6*
IB Visual Arts SL-expect a 6*
IB Economics SL-expect a 6 or a 7*
IB Social and Cultural Anthropology SL-expect a 5 or a 6
and possibly IB Film SL-expect a 6</p>

<p>(* indicates using for Diploma)
I also expect approx. 2 extra points.
So I should have at least a 35 point diploma, probably a 39 or 40 if all goes well.</p>

<p>I am also going to take some AP's:
AP Computer Science- expect a 4
AP Calculus AB, BC- expect a 5
AP Physics B/C- expect a 4
AP Economics- expect a 4
AP Lang & Lit- expect a 4
AP Chemistry- expect a 5</p>

<p>I took IB Physics SL this year (sophomore) just for learning purposes as I am too young to test in it. My school doesn't offer all the IB classes I am taking; in fact, I am self teaching myself for Economics, Social and Cultural Anthropology, and Further Maths as I am highly interested in all of those subjects. I am also teaching myself for AP Comp Sci and AP Physics B/C out of interest.</p>

<p>Extra Curricular wise, I am very active.
I am in Key club, Student Council, Class Office, Math Team, Science Team. Table Tennis Club and Computer Science Team. In fact, I am Class President and the Computer Science Team Coach, as well as a founder of Table Tennis Club. In the coming years, I expect to be Student Council President and Key Club Pres or VP.</p>

<p>I also am highly self motivated in mathematics and work for the Olympiads on my own. No one has ever scored higher than a 4 on the AIME at my school and we do not have any instruction for the tests either, but I should be a USAJMO qualifier this year and a USAMO qualifier over the next two years.</p>

<p>I think MIT will have lots of fun, interesting and challenging classes for me to participate in and that it will provide me with a peer group that I will fit in well with.</p>

<p>Chance me?</p>

<p>Not bumping at all…</p>

<p>Thanks guys, I’m just confused on whether high IB scores and performance in what I’m passionate will make up for my low SAT verbal and writing scores.</p>

<p>Most likely.</p>

<p>From [MIT</a> Admissions: Admissions Statistics](<a href=“http://www.mitadmissions.org/topics/apply/admissions_statistics/index.shtml]MIT”>http://www.mitadmissions.org/topics/apply/admissions_statistics/index.shtml) the admit rate for people with critical reading scores from 600 to 650 is 8%. It’s 11% for people with scores between 650 and 700. MIT does not consider the writing component for admissions.</p>

<p>Standardized tests are just a small part of your application. A 640 is sufficient for Critical Reading.</p>

<p>Thanks,
Does MIT put a strong emphasis on leadership roles like Harvard does?
As I am involved in so many school and community organizations. I am currently president of our grade, going to most likely be president of both key club and student council and am thinking of starting an organization to raise funds and donate them to areas of the world in need, like Haiti. I am actually a strong writer in my school and my SAT scores really don’t indicate my writing and reading abilities. (I am slow on the writing section and bomb the harder vocab questions in reading) I should get excellent LoR from my math, science, and english teachers (my 3 HL teachers). My math teacher who will have had me for 5 years, physics for 4, and English knowing me for 4 and having me for 2 in class.
Does MIT consider the weakness of the area you live in? As I live in rural TX, in a place with no USAMO qualifier ever. And I will probably qualify and by senior year score a 14+. I hopefully will qualify for USAJMO and get #3 or #6 correct.
I like MIT and I think I belong there but I’m scared I might not get in as I am stubborn about not following teachers instructions to score well on SATs, etc and instead go forward with my own passions.</p>

<p>You can find the answers to those questions and more at the MIT admissions site and blogs.</p>

<p>[MIT</a> Admissions](<a href=“http://www.mitadmissions.org/]MIT”>http://www.mitadmissions.org/)</p>

<p>you’re going to have to study alot for the SATs. USAMO isn’t an auto-admit to MIT anymore, after they changed their admissions policy a bit.</p>

<p>It never was…</p>
