I'm a junior in high school and am interested in Ivies. Also, I was wondering if I should take AP Euro, or Organic Chemistry (at college) senior year.
My Stats

SAT I: 2170
SAT II: None yet, will take 5, expect above 750 on all
ACT: none yet expect 33-35
AP's: AP Chem, AP Calc AB and BC, AP Lit, AP Bio. Expect all 5's on the tests

GPA weighted: 4.2
GPA unweighted: 4.0

EC's:
8 Year Science Olympiad member with multiple national medals including three national first places
Guest of Honor at the 2009 Society for Neuroscience Annual Meeting
12 Week internship at John's Hopkins top neuroscience lab (Forefront in the nation) this summer
State and nationally ranked tennis player (USTA)
Regionally ranked tennis player for school
4 years varsity tennis
3 years first chair clarinet top band
Boy scouts, National Honor Society, local TV station, give clarinet and tennis lessons
600+ volunteer hours
State recognized clarinetist

Schools Applying to:
Harvard
Yale
Princeton
Brown
Cornell
Duke
UPenn
University of Chicago
University of Michigan
Stanford
Northeastern

Your GPA and SAT are far too low for the Ivy’s and Stanford. So I’d say that all of those are high reaches (but you never know!)
Duke and U Chicago are matches and you’ll get into Northeastern and U Michigan with either full scholarships or close to it.
GOOD LUCK!

Damn, if what you’re saying is true, you really have a great shot… don’t see how your application could be any better to be honest. Only thing you have to do is keep it up and hope for the best!

Your GPA is good, obviously (how is a maximum score low?!), and your ECs are really impressive, especially the olympiad involvement and your internship at Hopkins. You really have a good chance. Do retake those SATs though, in your niche group (science inclined students) SAT scores are usually really high, so you will want to score a 2250. You still have a good shot with your SAT scores as they are now though.

He means you’re Weighted GPA is too low. Looking at the 4.2 W next to a 4.0 UW, it showcases what you’re missing. Rigor of schedule. You can’t do much about that now. Some colleges value this more than others, and the Ivies are included in that group. Everything else looks absolutely perfect.

Harvard - reach
Yale - reach
Princeton - high reach
Brown - In
Cornell - In
Duke - In
UPenn - reach
UChicago - In w/ scholarship
UMich - In w/ probable full ride
Stanford - high reach
Northeastern - In w/ full ride

I could take another AP, making me at 6… right now I only have two, which is why my GPA is low, but our school averages our AP GPA with our regular, so we can never get 5.0 without ALL AP’s. So, should I take another AP or take Organic Chem at a college?

The college you apply to will see exactly how your school structure works. Do not worry, they will understand.

Frankly, it depends on the course. You do not want to ruin your Senior year with AP Chemistry. Something a little more lax, probably wouldn’t hurt. However, this is the second semester. Although colleges value rigor of schedule, they really just want to see you keep up your grades in second semester, not kill yourself.

I’d say, don’t worry about it. While they are reviewing your application, any potential AP or Dual Enrollment courses in your second semester will only be looked at for their face value. You should just focus on keeping your GPA where it is for this semester and relax.

I’m actually still a junior, hence why I don’t have a high weighted GPA… I meant for next year, and I think I’ll probably dual enroll instead of a 6th AP… Thanks for the advice, it is hard to relax sometimes… College admissions are rough…

Oh yeah, I’m also 4th in my class of 460 and have recommendations from Harvard staff and the president of the society for neuroscience, I don’t know if those help or not?

I’m not fishing for compliments, I have no idea what helps and what doesn’t… I seriously want to know if I should take a college class or another AP. I don’t need compliments, I need advice. That’s what this is for, right? Advice?
