Chance me please!

Hi, I'm a Junior in a public school in Michigan. I'm a white male probably majoring in some type of engineering. I have recently started thinking about where I would like to go to college and to which schools I should apply. I would really appreciate if someone would give me an estimate of my chance of acceptance to these colleges and also some suggestions on how to raise that chance.

Stats:
ACT: 33 (36M 31E 31R 33S)
GPA: 3.9 UW, 4.5 W.
Rank: Will be in top 5%
APs - Stats (5) WH (5)
Senior year Course Load: Pretty much all APs.

Extracurriculars:
President of Student Government at my school.
President of Young Libertarians at my school.
Member of a few clubs at my school.
100+ Volunteer Hours.
Captain of JV tennis team as a sophomore.
Played Lacrosse for 2 years.
Nation honors society.
Went to Nationals for the We The People competition with my school.

Other:
I work about 10 hours a week at a local grocery store.
Family yearly income about $50,000.

These are the schools I am considering:
Duke
Stanford
Columbia
UPenn
Northwestern
Cornell
Boston College
UVA
U of Mich (Ann Arbor)
Cal Berkeley
UNC (Chapel-Hill)
NYU
University of Illinois

Please let me know what my chances are and how to improve them. Thanks so much!

Your numerical stats seem on target for the tougher schools on your list, although it seems like you will definitely need financial aid which could hurt you at a few of them. You can’t really do anything about that though and many schools will be understanding, all you can do is keep working hard and get high scores on your AP tests.

Thanks so much! I appreciate it!

I would agree with nyc2013 regarding your stats. Although needing financial aid may hurt you, some schools such as Cornell are “Need-Blind”, meaning that they do not look at how much financial aid one will need when reviewing their application. Good Luck!

well i think youll get into half those schools with all the EC’s and the good GPA. By the way good luck in the future, we need more of us libertarians out there. Anarcho capitalism all the way

Why would you go to NYU for engineering? The only program they offer is NYU Poly which is COMPLETELY different and not as prestigious.

Prestige is so prologue. :P

NYU-Poly would definitely give you more financial aid than NYU. I know because I go there, and it showered me with $. That said, it looks like you’re shooting for the stars, but I hope you have a plan on how to afford them. I got into Northwestern and Carnegie Mellon’s SCS but turned them down because I was poor, and didn’t really realize. Same income as you, maybe a bit more.

No, seriously, I was just like you. 2300 SAT, high gpa, great recs, exc’s, etc. Are you applying to any affordable schools? :/

Oh, I guess U of Mich (in-state).

My grandparents have a lot of money, so hopefully they will chip in.

@locust: haha, I agree!
