HOSA (10,11,12): President. do blood drives, screening, fundraisers, the like
GOVT (9,10,11,12): commentator for school announcements, Jr board chairman for local bank, pres of student council, served on a college recruitment committee
NHS (10,11,12): President, coordinate community projects, public relations
FCA (9,10,1,12): speaker and ice breaker leader
Model UN (10,11,12): received outstanding and distinguished delegate awards
Basketball and Track: Jacksonville's Channel 4 All-Star Athlete Award of 2009-2010. Captain in both sports. 4th at state in Track for 100m Hurdles</p>

<p>Summer: NYLF Medicine at Emory, Volunteer at local hospital, Red cross, and 2 local nursing homes and promote awareness for healthy aging lifestyles, GA Track games (Jr. Olympics): placed 4th (10th grade) in hurdles, HOBY Ambassador and peer-selected commencement speaker</p>

H1N1 research in conjunction with the Southeast dept. of Public Health</p>

<p>HIV/AIDS advocate. Advocate for HIV/AIDS awareness annually on a regional level</p>

<p>In my opinion, majord14, you have an excellent chance at admission, ranking first in your class and with strong extracurriculars. You should be able to round up some excellent letters of recommendation and show demonstrated interest by visiting the campus. You could also email the admissions counselor in charge of minority recruitment and ask about Emory Scholars and other programs. See link below:

<p>Oh my… if you didn’t get in, I would be absolutely surprised.</p>

<p>Those aren’t hooks, majord. But you should be accepted with those stats, depending on what you’re applying to.</p>

<p>Very good chance w/o URM status, with URM you have it locked up.</p>

<p>Just do well on your app essay and you’ll be fine.</p>

<p>thanx, my parents have totally been on me about narrowing down my college search. you all were a huge help</p>

<p>Go look up Emory’s unique history with HIV/AIDS research, and then write an essay on that. ;)</p>

<p>With URM status, those stats, and the obvious interest in Emory you could display by learning about Emory’s history in the fight against HIV, you certainly meet the criteria they are looking for in a candidate.</p>
