Chance me please

Hi everyone. I'm getting nervous about college admissions. I'm a junior and I'm slightly worried that I'm aiming too high.

I'm looking at Georgetown, JHU, Wash U, Emory, and Notre Dame as my top choices. I also like Stanford, Duke, and Harvard, but I'm worried those may be out of my reach. My more "safeties" are Holy Cross and Villanova.

I want to study biology and will most likely go pre-med. Both of my parents, grandparents, and various aunts and uncles went to ND, so I do have the legacy advantage there.

Grades
My school does not calculate a GPA or rank, but I am in the top 10% of my class. I know this because I was inducted as a member of the Cum Laude Society, which is composed of the top 10% of the junior class.
I have taken the highest level classes that I could and have gotten mostly As and a few A-s, with an occasional B+ mixed in.
I have made Honor Roll every year as well.
I took AP Biology, AP US History, and AP Spanish Language this year and got all As. I project 4/5s on the exams.
I will take AP European History, AP Spanish Lit, AP Calculus (probably AB, but possibly BC) and AP English Lit next year.

Test Scores:
I got a 2350 on the SAT (790 CR, 800 W, 760 M).
I got a 790 on the Chem SAT II.
I am taking the Biology M, Spanish, and Math II SAT IIs in June.
I also qualified for the National Merit Scholarship thing from my PSATs

ECs:
First off, my school only allows you to hold one leadership position at once. So it's impossible to be the head of a club and class president etc.
I have been a member of my school's Key Club for 3 years and the head of the club for 2. Two summers ago I traveled to Costa Rica for 3 weeks with a program called Academic Treks. We participated in sea turtle research and took classes on marine biology.
Last summer and this summer I have/will worked (paid internship) in a prominent bioengineering lab. The director of the lab is often in the national news for his work. I will definitely be having him write a letter of rec for me.
I have also volunteered for over 200 hrs in the maternity department at a local hospital.

I have been on varsity swimming for two years. I was also on JV swim as a freshman, where I won the excellence award.
I have been on JV soccer for 2 years, where I won the sportsmanship/leadership award.
I have also been a member of my schools peer tutoring club for 2 years,; I tutor in Chemistry and Spanish.
Finally, I have also been a member of my schools yearbook club for 3 years.

I am also a fairly active member of my Roman Catholic church.
I have volunteered through them in a soup kitchen many times and I will be going on my church's teen service trip this summer.

I go to a fairly prominent independent school in the New England area. It's not at the Exeter/Andover level but it's still academically rigorous. I will not be needing financial aid.

Any sort of insight would be much appreciated. If any more info is necessary, I will try to provide it. Thank in advance and I will gladly chance back!

Be sure to visit all of the schools if possible before finalizing your list. You need to see what the college is really like and if you will feel comfortable there. You have outstanding stats and will be a serious applicant at all of the schools you have mentioned especially the Catholic ones.

Great, thank you!
I have visited many of the schools, and am hopefully going to make it to more this summer. Thanks for the advice!

With your resume, there really isn’t anywhere completely out of your league. You might just want to tailor your safeties a bit depending on if you need financial aid or not.

Thank you!
Financial aid isn’t really an issue for me, so I don’t have to consider that in my safeties, but thanks for the advice.

Bump…

I will chance back, I promise :)

WOW! Your stats look really solid. Nice job, brownies! Honestly, other than keeping your grades up, I don’t think there is much you should have to change/worry about!

Thanks for the chance brownies. Yeah, I remember looking at this and got pi ssed off because everything seemed so perfect. I think you are set for safeties.
Your top colleges are all high matches/low reaches. And I think you have a solid chance for HYPSM (although it is still a reach, just like for everyone else).

Thank you both :)

Looks pretty solid  Looks like a low to mid reach for the Ivies/Stanford/Duke (but that’s because it’s always a reach), but match for the rest. Nice job ^^

Thank you.

Still looking for more chances. Will chance back.

your test scores are excellent, and i think academic wise you are great.

your recs seem like they will be great cuz you have a long-term research opportunity and you’ve stuck with it, so good job there!

your ECs i think are great. you’ve stayed committed and colleges will probably realize that the school you are in has certain rules they enforce. do you have any one leadership position though?

so I think you have as good a chance as any serious applicant for Stanford, Duke, Harvard. It’s all about the essay!

georgetown for bio/pre-med? i didnt know that it had a good bio program there…:P

Yes, I have been head of the Key Club for 2 years, it will be 3 when I graduate.
I will definitely put a lot of time and effort into the essays, for sure!
And I know, that’s the thing that does make me a little wary about Georgetown. But I love the location and my parents like the Catholic aspect, so I think I’ll definitely apply.

bump  10char
