Took all honors courses throughout junior and senior high and maintained mostly As with a few Bs, then in 11th and 12th dropped to regular math+science.

Major is undetermined as of yet, most likely english, philosophy, or political science (I've wanted to go to law school since I was young)

From junior to senior year I volunteered throughout at a public interest law center which works to better the public education system in Pennsylvania.

Writing has always been my strong suit and I'm confident in my essay.

GW is my top choice, but I'm a little nervous about my odds.

I honestly don’t believe in these chance threads, but I’ll comment anyways.

I got in with a similar background as you - from a well respected public high school in PA, around the vicinity of your SAT scores, very similar rigorous course schedule (I had only one more AP class than you), etc. So I think you have a good shot. I’d say try to increase your GPA a bit, although the percentile you’re in is good. Make sure you visit the campus, talk to the regional respresentative, have an interview, etc. Do all the things that prove your dedication and interest. If you apply ED (since you say GW is your first choice) you have a rather good shot at getting in, in my opinion. And since you know your strength in writing, you have very little to worry about for your essays. I wish you good luck =)

My GPA will go up a little bit in senior year, the reason it’s so low now is because of my not very good freshman and sophomore years - which means I have an upwards trend. And thanks, this has been very reassuring :)

I don’t think we can really accurately guess in threads. There’s a lot of other factors: how many applications, where you’re from, extracurricular, cultural background, etc.

But, I’d say that you have a fairly good shot. Get good recommendations. Don’t b.s. the essay or try to be a certain type of applicant. They want to see you for you. I got in, and it wasn’t my first choice, and my stats were reasonably in the ballpark of yours, though I had a higher GPA and more APs and extracurriculars. WIth that said, don’t list every activity or extracurricular that you’ve ever done. GW likes to see someone’s special interest, and what makes them unique. Do you have some unique hobby, talent, or volunteering?

Anyway, I would say that you should apply to GWU for sure.

Another tip: Pick a major, and come up with some enthusiasm later. Have some grand dream career… even if you don’t. Unless you write some unique essay on how you have no idea what you want as a career, but those type of essays rarely work…
