Chance me, please?

Hi! I'm a rising senior from Ohio who is interested in theatre, creative writing, communications, and government. I was homeschooled for my freshman and sophomore years, attended an online school for my junior year, and I plan to be homeschooled again for my senior year. Here are my stats:

GPA (unweighted): 3.4
SAT I: 1910, Critical Reading-700, Math-460, Writing-750
SAT II: US History-710, English Literature-730
ACT: 27 Composite

I'm retaking both the SAT and the ACT in the fall.

For my Freshman year, I got all A's, my Sophomore year, four A's and four B's, and my Junior year, I have 6 A's, 2 B's, and 3 C's. I have two AP's (US History and English Language). But the two C's on my transcript for my Junior Spring Semester...are in US History and English Language. I have a feeling that's going to hurt my chances, a lot. I took both exams, but I haven't gotten the scores back yet. I also have not taken Algebra II, or any other advanced math courses, although I plan to this coming school year. I am also planning on taking classes at the local community college.

ECs:
Choir (Church, Homeschool): 2 Years
Drama (4 yrs):
Cinderella (2007)-Lord #1
The Wild, Wild, Wildest West (2007)-Schizophrenic Sue
Narnia (2008)-White Witch
The King and I (2009)-Costume Director and Guard #2
Rumpelstiltskin (2009)-Queen Beatrice
The Frog Prince (2010)-Knight #2
Church Volunteer (3 yrs)
Debate Club (1 yr)

Work Experience:
I've worked on-a-again, off-a-again in various positions at my grandmother's store since my freshman year.

So, after all that, I'm wondering if I could get into any of the following schools:

Fordham University
Syracuse University
Emerson College
Agnes Scott College
Wagner College
Ithaca College
Boston University
DePauw University
Kenyon College
Wittenberg University
Rutgers

If I don't have much of a chance at any of these, or many of these, recommendations would be nice (unless this isn't the right place, of course). Thank you very much!

Not gonna lie. That math score will kill you

Not really… overall the score isn’t that bad, and from the looks of the ECs, the person isn’t doing anything related to math and science.
The schools that you’re applying to might be able to excuse that, but hopefully you can get it a little higher next time you retake.

I don’t know much about the schools you’re applying to, but you should really study hard for the SAT math section this summer. If you practice often, you could probably raise that section alone by 200 points. If you do that, then your SAT score would most likely make you a solid candidate for all of your schools.

Thank you, everyone. Yes, I know that math score needs improving if I want to have a chance, and I am trying to raise it. Thank you again! More feedback is also greatly appreciated.

grades class rank are strange bc of being homeschooled so that might put off some colleges who want to more accurately judge your classwork and see how you compare to peers
but for the schools you listed your scores should be enough
id sent SATs not the ACTS btw

Many of the colleges that I’ve researched ask that homeschooled students send a complete description of their coursework and what materials they used, in addition to test scores and a transcript. But, thank you! I also have two more colleges I’m looking at: Wash U in St. Louis and NYU. I probably have no chance at both, am I right? Thank you all for the feedback so far. :)

Your GPA and SAT are very low for Wash U. They are extremely selective.

Your overall score is very important, but I’d argue that the breakdowns are even more important. For example, a 2100 with 700s across the board is better than a 2100 with two 750s and a 600.

One thing I’ve read about homeschooled students is that some schools require 3 SATs from you. I don’t remember which schools, but that’s something to keep in mind.

WUSTL and NYU are high reaches, mostly because of your GPA and SAT.

Fordham, Syracuse, and Kenyon are reaches. Boston is unrealistic. However, I think you have a good chance at all of the other schools. However your ECs are good, so I recommend you apply to NYU, which puts a lot of weight on ECs.

Chance me back: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/953055-please-chance.html

Thanks again, everyone. Is there anything I can do to increase my chances at Fordham, Syracuse, and Kenyon?

study like hell for SAT’s
and yeah i double what spatula said about taking more subject test
bc youre home schooled id check out all your schools policys on testing thoroughly
but i disagree with spatula about the 2100 thing
if math isnt your thing & your intended major doesnt concern it then its fine if its lower but that said it must be proficient (600 id say) and your other two scores high/mid 700’s

Yep, definitely planning on studying quite a bit for the SAT and the ACT. And I’m definitely planning on taking more SAT Subject Tests.

Also, I just found out that I rank #7 in a class of 167 for my Junior year. Does this help my chances or hurt them?

That is a very good rank, considering your low unweighted gpa, and it should help you.

I have yet another worry/question. Will those C’s hurt me? If so, how much? I know my test scores need improving, but I’ve also been told that colleges look at grades more than test scores.
