Chance me PLEASE

For the Olin School.

white male, private Catholic school, rising senior

GPA 3.83 UW, hardest classes all 4 years
ACT 31 (ugh)
SAT 1250/1900 (abysmal, I know, not submitting, might take again)
PSAT 202

Various ECs, been in many for all 3 years, lettered in 2 varsity sports this year, founder of marketing club

Also: WashU is my top choice. I will be applying for all merit scholarships (to show interest...almost certainly will not get any), visiting and interviewing, and applying early. Anything else to show interest I can do?

Thanks for your honest opinions.

I would focus on your ACT score and try to bring it up instead of trying to get your SATs up.

Are you taking any SAT IIs?

Any APs?

If you’re applying early, you can wait for the merit scholarships since they’re due during regular decision date. Applying early shows interest enough. You don’t have to worry about that. Of course, visiting and interviewing will help slightly.

It’s hard to chance you with the dearth of information… but if you write a good essay and have strong recommendations, you might have a decent chance. Improve that ACT score though, and it’ll be a lot higher.

Yes I will be taking probably 3 SATIIs, Math II, US History and something else.

I am taking all available AP classes at my school.

I’ll write a good essay and make sure I have good recs…writing is my strong point. And do you think even a 1 point jump to 32 ACT would make a big difference?

A one point jump could make a difference. WashU superscores the ACT so a one point jump could lead to a 2 point increase when superscored.

Any improvement on the ACT, even if superscored, will help u a lot. Don’t bother sending the SAT score; it’s not within range and you’re better off spending your time improving your ACT.

Work on your SAT IIs; don’t send them in unless they are good scores (the norm is 650+ or 700+, depending on the subject), because you don’t want them to hurt your chances.

Taking all APs show that you’re taking the most rigorous course load offered at your school, so that is definitely a plus. A good essay that shows off your writing skills will definitely help with the process.

Yes, I would say improve on your standard test scores…and keep in mind that Wash U only “recommends” SAT IIs, so don’t send them in if they might hurt you. I know people do get admitted without sending in SAT IIs, so no worries there.

OK thanks.

AP Scores update.

English comp 5
APUSH 4
Calc AB 3

Really mad about APUSH but I expected a 3 in calc because I am terrible at it. Is there a way for me not to send my calc score?
