Your GPA is solid, but your SAT’s are below average for UCSD. You should definately retake them and take the ACT’s- I did a lot better on the ACT. Also, are you in the top 4% of your class in a CA high school? If you are then your chances are a lot better. Be sure to do at least 100 hrs of community service, and if you got your red belt before 9th grade it won’t count toasted your app.
Hope this helps

Your friends seriously told you the SAT is similar to the STAR?! … Maybe it’s time to get new friends.

Edit: Ok that sounded mean, but I didn’t mean to be offensive. It’s just that the SAT is a pretty difficult test, as you now know. And about the ACT test…I find it weird that I hear a lot of people scoring higher on the ACT than on the SAT, yet colleges supposely weigh them equally.

I’m going to say put a lot of effort behind that SAT score, it really needs to be 2100+. Take a Princeton Review prep course, or at least go through a few books of practice tests. SAT II’s as well. I’m sad to say that standardized testing does have a pretty substantial effect on your chances of getting in.

Some people score higher on the SAT, some score higher on the ACT. Just because a larger number of people score higher on one doesn’t mean they should weigh it differently. Also, some schools only allow students to take the ACT.
