Chance me please!

I'm applying to TAMU and since I'm not in the top 10%, I'm not sure about my chances of getting in...
My class size is fairly small (About 300 students) so it's somewhat competitive.
Yes, I am a Texas resident.

Anyway,

GPA: 3.53/4.0
Class Rank: 89/330 (27%)
SATs: 1880 (Retaking soon)
I haven't taken my ACTs yet.

And in case affirmative action really matters, I'm a full Hispanic.

8th grade: AP Spanish - 4
9th : Pre-AP
10th: AP English Language, AP World History, AP Psychology - 3,3,3
11th: AP Biology, AP US History, AP Spanish Literature, AP English Literature - 1, 3, 4, 3
11.5: Dual Credit Economics/Govt - 6 hours
12th: AP Studio Art 2D, AP Calculus

(I took all Pre-AP and AP courses, really)

ECs:
Part of a competitive Tae Kwon Do team during 9th grade
Chapter President of SkillsUSA - 10th grade
Teen Court Defense Attorney - 10th grade - ongoing
Science Olympiad (General member) - 11th grade - ongoing
Academic Decathlon - 12th grade - ongoing
Ambassador - 12th grade - ongoing

I held a 10 hour/week job during 11th grade
I'm currently a Resident Technician at Staples for 25 hours/week

I have some community service stuff here and there, but it's miscellaneous.

So what are my chances of getting into TAMU? Any comments or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. By the way, I'm choosing Biomedical Engineering and Economics B.S. as my major(s).

same questions as always:
Have you made an official visit to A&M?, visited the college of your choice majors?, visited a prospective student center?, been to any of the camps or events held for high school jr/sr’s?
break down your SAT scores for us.
do you realize how important community service is to A&M? it is important
I see one leadership position, what about honor socieities?

I haven’t made my official visit just yet, but I will soon. I’ve been to one of the events and that was last year.

Math: 630
CR: 600
Writing: 650

I don’t have that many community service hours, just about 100 or so. I’m sure I’ll need more but I’m working on that as well. As for the honor societies, well, I haven’t had a chance to join any… Is that a huge problem?

I’m simply not sure.
I hope the best for you. I would suggest you to get your application in quickly - but you really need to get that official visit in. A&M is very big on you being interested in them, not just sending in applications.
100+ hours community service is good.
As far as honor socieities - it is important.
I do think you have a good chance at admission, however I’m not sure about your choice of majors, both are pretty competative.

Well, the reason why my ECs are so lackluster is because that’s pretty much all that my school has. We really have few clubs/organizations/etc so it can get pretty difficult to stick to something. I think the Teen Court thing could count as a leadership position as well, though.

As for the choice of major, well… I think my subject tests should be able to help me, right? I’m hoping to get around 700 on them, which seems achievable with the practice results I’ve had.

I’m just not sure either.

You have good chances for A&M. In for Economics but not for BME.

What would be good stats for BME?

Your rank & math section of SAT (II’s too) are looked at upon most heavily. Preferably top 10% and 700+ math SAT (and II’s if you take them).

Are all of the Engineering requirements similar to that of BME? I’m not discouraged, but I do feel like I have to strive a lot higher now than ever before…

Have you tried ACT? some kids just do better on ACT.
3’s on your AP test are average, and the 4 is in Spanish Literature and you are Hispanic.
For engineering you need to step up your math scores.
The problem is your class rank - you gotta prove yourself with high test scores. So study hard and get thoes scores up. You might try the ACT as well, different style of test.
Best of luck on your next go around with the SAT’s!
