My recommendations are probably going to be really good.
So let me know of your thoughts! Thanks so much!

I would say you are pretty much in at Duke and UPenn. Cornell as well. As for the others, I’m not sure. I’d definitely imagine your chances to be high, though.

Duke and UPenn I think are matches. Yale…not so much. Yale is so freaking competitive that even with your background it would be hard to get in there. If you were maybe in the top 1 percent it would be different…but all other schools, matches.

Why are you saying that he is in at Duke and UPenn? His rank isn’t that great (not bad though…if you go to a competitive school), his scores are VERY subpar for these schools, and he has pretty stereotypical ECs. I’d say reaches for all, unless he writes a nobel-prize winning essay.

if you raise your score 200+ points then you should be a match for pretty much all but Yale
but as of right now UVA is a high match and the rest are almost reach to high reaches

chance me back?

UPenn: Reach
Yale: High Reach
UVA: Low Reach
Duke: Reach
Cornell: Reach

I think you have a great GPA, course load, and some unique ECs (especially your summer in Gambia). However, your class rank and low SAT score will definitely be a slight disadvantage when applying to the schools on your list.

Of course, you should definitely still apply to UPenn ED. If you are accepted, congrats to you! If not, I would suggest taking your SAT I again to score above a 2200. Overall, you are a very strong candidate, but Yale may be a little out of reach (it is for almost everyone). However, if you score 2130 on the next SATs and write great essays about your amazing ECs, you should be a good candidate for UPenn ED.

Best of luck!

Chance me back? : )

reach for the ivies, even though it’s still possible. SAT score isn’t quite up to par. Duke is a match

Your E.C.'s are very good, they may wonder why you are not reporting other A.P. scores if your schedule shows you’ve taken them. I would think Yale is a high reach even if the SATs come up, Duke and UVA sound like possibles especially given your excellent E.C.s. Don’t really know too much about the other schools.
Oh and applying Early Decision to Penn should give you an advantage there.

You do have great ECs but I’m not sure if they will be enough for Yale or UPenn. You really need to get your SAT score up, break at least 2100. Good luck (:

Wow we’re like the same person. I’m also Korean American and my GPAs 4.2 and my AP exams sucked too.

I’d say that GPA and SAT scores are holding you back the most. But retaking can change your score drastically so best of luck. Even with ED, getting into UPenn is gonna be a reach. Yale is SUPER competitive. It’s Yale afterall, that should be a super reach. UVA & Williams, in. Cornell is a match/reach.Your ECs do reflect your medical interests which is a plus.

Hope that helped!
Chance a fellow Korean back?

You have a pretty strong stats and ecs, but all you need is a higher sat score (at least a 2150?). with that, you should be fine! it’s great (and convenient) that you have a path planned out for you! in college applications, you could show your passion of becoming a pediatric neurosurgeon, which is all to your advantage! you should be able to get into duke easily though, given you receive a higher sat score! good luck in your apps and the sats next week! chance me back, a fellow korean who also aspires of becoming a future pediatric neurosurgeon?

you’re in state at UVA so i think you’re good there

I have yet to see a thread so filled to the brim with uninformed posters. This is the problem with CC: anyone, regardless of how inept, can post. I’m inept enough, but some of these guys…
Allenj, saxappeal, and raider all are clueless. Ballpointpen has it pretty much dead on. The rank and SAT scores are going to do significant hurt upon your application. Your ECs are good, but not outstanding, so they won’t make up for it. And just put your career interest as pre-medicine in your essays; pediatric neurosurgeon will sound dedicated albeit unrealistic.
That being said, you are a relatively decent applicant at all.

I don’t think UPenn or Yale will be happening, unless you increase your SATs by A LOT. If you increase your SATs, you’ll stand a decent shot at the others. As of right now, they’re all high matches, in my opinion.

Id say sats need to come up but other than that your in teh right range for everything
Youve got a shot at all those schools but you wont neccessarily get in to any

I think that if you can get your SATs up to the 1450/2200+ range, you have a really, really good shot at most of those schools. Your essay topic sounds really good as well.
Best of luck, I think you can and will get into one of those schools.

Everything’s solid, but I don’t see you getting into the top colleges listed (mainly UPenn/Yale) if you don’t bring up those SATs.

For a place like Yale, even with higher SATs will put you in a similar position with other applicants. Same goes to UPenn, but I think you might have little more chance at UPenn.

ATM (to me): Reach for all except Yale and UPenn (High Reach)

Other strong pre-med schools are Holy Cross(don’t have to be religious) and Tufts. Holy Cross just built a $70 million science addition and has great medical alumni network including a Nobel Prize winner.

Thanks for replying to my post:)
I noticed you’re also Taekwondo athlete! sweet!
ahaha anyway, I’m jealous of your SAT scores…
I’ll try my best !
oh and I don’t really know much about cornell or UPen but… I think you have potential!
If I happen to make UVA and you happen to be there too, I deff say hi:)

Sorry- no to UPENN, Reg. to Yale, UVA, Williams, Duke, Cornell, due to rank and SAT. And they will wonder about AP scores.

Where else are you applying?
