Close to 200 hours in the past 1 1/2 years participating in the organization that I co-founded downtown that assists Chicago's homeless. Will accumulate over 300 by the end of 2010. (I am really hoping to make this a focal point of my character to the colleges, for after my shoulder injury, my passions and ambition shifted to helping those less fortunate than myself- this is what my personal statement is based upon).
I have also served with student council, the baseball team and at many events at my church throughout the past 6 years of involvement at my new church.

Forgot to put down super scored ACT!

Composite (31) English (34) Math (30) Reading (29) Science (31)

Also, I am applying to the business school

What is your unweighted GPA?

UW GPA is a 3.5 :/

I have taken 8 AP classes (1 soph, 3 jr and 4 sr) along with 4 honors (2 fresh 2 soph) if that helps as well

Olin will be a definite reach.

At an admissions presentation, I asked the admissions officer how applicants to the business school are evaluated in comparison to the rest of the applicant pool. He said that an emphasis was put on math (scores) and leadership positions. Your ACT math score is below average (Average at Wash U is a 32), and I see no significant leadership positions in your ECs.

Furthermore, your GPA is low, you fall in the bottom 25% of ACT composite scores to Wash U (mid 50% was 32-34), and you are not in the top 10% of your class.

I would suggest retaking the ACT for a higher score.

^ I agree with the above post.

Being outside the Top 10% is a big problem for WashU acceptance - 96% of the admitted students were in the top 10% (of those from schools who rank)…

Your ACT scores, while quite good in the non-CC world, are below the 25% for WashU. Unless you have a hook, e.g URM or recruited athlete, your odds aren’t great. However, there are lots of other great schools where your stats would be matches for. It’s fine to apply to WashU as a reach, as long as you also have matches and safeties covered.

^Agree with above two

It is most definitely a reach school for me, I knew that coming into the post haha. I was actually looking more too see if it is even worth applying? I have already been accepted direct admit to IU with a $9,000 scholarship so I already I have one top 20 Bschool (businessweek) in the bag. Now I am just looking for a couple reach schools to apply to (Wash U, ND, and Michigan)

Well considering there is no supplement for Wash U, I don’t see why you shouldn’t just apply. There are plenty of students every years who apply to a reach school and miraculously get in.

Already having an acceptance in hand is the best safety.

No reason not to apply to WashU as a reach, except for the cost. And as was said above, there isn’t an essay supplement, so it is easy to apply.
