Community Service
Close to 200 hours in the past 1 1/2 years participating in the organization that I co-founded downtown that assists Chicago's homeless. Will accumulate over 300 by the end of 2010. (I am really hoping to make this a focal point of my character to the colleges, for after my shoulder injury, my passions and ambition shifted to helping those less fortunate than myself- this is what my personal statement is based upon).
I have also served with student council, the baseball team and at many events at my church throughout the past 6 years of involvement at my new church.

You don’t apply to the business school, but rather to a program within business. Your ACT places you in the mid 50% of applicants admitted to the College of Business (CoB), but some programs are harder to get into than others. Your rank, on the other hand is slightly below the middle 50% range of admitted applicants. Essays are very important to CoB, as are extracurriculars. Your ECs seem fine. You need to submit good essays. I’d have to say overall you’re a slight reach for CoB, but would likely get admitted to DGS, which you will be considered for automatically should you not be admitted to your initial program of choice.

Balthezar, how would you rank the different programs within business in terms of competitiveness of admission? Once you’re admitted to one, how difficult is it to switch to a different one?

I know the Accountancy program keeps fluctuating between 1st and 2nd in the nation; it’s currently ranked 2nd, and is very competitive. Not sure about the other business programs’ competitiveness relative to each other. I assume it varies on an annual basis based on number of applications received for each program. See here for rankings:

I stand corrected regarding applying to a specific program within the College of Business. Drusba stated on another thread that all freshman apply undecided to the business college. See below:
