hooks

-dad didnt go to college, was in jail
-mom only associates degree and sinlge with 3 kids
-middle eastern (asseryian), black, white, and asian (filipino)

i want to be a poly sci major and perfect my german since i am already fluent in french, and then learn italian, go to law school and get into politics

oh this isnt my account...im "borrowing" my friends so yeah please read and if you did thank you

Dad not going to jail is not a hook. Dad being in jail, not a hook. Mom being a single mom with 3 kids not a hook.
You have no hooks.

You got a D in algebra 1…
and you have several C’s…

I’m sorry but the Ivy’s are not where you should be looking.
Maybe try some middle-ish ground schools.

okay i just found out i got into yale so that might change things

in his defense those were from freshman year, not calculated into GPA by the school he’s applying to.

Your hook is that you’re a 2-time All-American…who can’t spell his own race.
It’s ‘Assyrian’ for the record.

@mete: it’s calculated in by most schools; to my knowledge only a few don’t - Cornell for example. His soph grades weren’t great either first semester.

Your academics are not stellar by any means, but above decent. I don’t know how fast you are as a swimmer, but that’s going to dictate what schools you get into.

I smell ■■■■■?

There is no way he got into Yale

■■■■■? your cool! but no i am a very fast swimmer if you ant my times i would be more than happy to give them to you. and i didn’t know how to spell it because i usually don’t identify myself as that race. and btw yale doesn’t look at indiviual grades, they look at it as a whole. and i had a lot of hardships my freshman and beginning of sophomore year so i don’t know if they took that into account or anything.

@futurepresident haha want to bet?

Yes. I am willing to bet you didn’t get into Yale…
There are people with better stats and overall resumes who don’t get in.
I do not believe you got into Yale.

well clearly you arn’t very familiar with yale, because you see, they care about your passions and how you pusue them, not just stats. yes they are important, but they arn’t the deciding factor. and as you can see, i like politics, and serving others, and i have pursued this to the fullest. but to each his own, believe hat you want, i could really care less. but i don’t really need your negativity polluting my thread, so since you have no further need here, and arn’t giving your opinion for the other schools, i’d prefer if you left…

Your stats and ec’s aren’t good enough for any of the Ivys.
There is your answer.

No one would waste their time chancing you if you’re just a ■■■■■.

your kidding me right? my stats arn’t the best best overall (not including my begining of hs grades) they are up there, and my ec’s are top notch! haha your kidding right?

Your EC’s are nothing special…

except the all american swimmer*

But that’s still just one sport…
Schools want people who are good in several things

School Representative to town Board of Ed this year? Athlete Representative to state governing body this year and last year? thats an elected position that i worked very hard to get. if you don’t think so, then your crazy haha. house page? there were around 300 other students ho applied and i was chosen my my rep. how is that nothing special?

i clearly am good in several things bud

You don’t win the numbers game. Even if you want to say your EC’s are spectacular…which they are nothing out of the ordinary…my friend was a senate page, 3rd at the national spelling bee, valedictorian, went to nationals since he was a sophomore etc. and got rejected from yale and stanford and cornell…they won’t truly look at that when your gpa is so low and you have so many b’s and even a D on your transcript

my gpa isn’t low 4.12/3.71. and i am sorry to hear about your friends, but i don’t know what to tell you. my stats are above average. my ec’s are excellent. i imagine that my recs and essays were excellent as well, and my swimming stands me out. so i really am not in the mood for arguing.

and being a page looks great btw

‘You don’t win the numbers game.’

he won the gene lottery with his swimming ability. this doesn’t mean that gseymour is ‘better’ or ‘smarter’ than your friend, but rather that he fits what yale wants.

of course, this assumes that gseymour is recruited and swimming for the school…otherwise his swimming is just an above-average ec.

recruited athletes have very tangible advantages in admissions.
