I’d say in. Your class schedule is strong and your GPA is fine, especially considering that schedule. You have a few strong ECs. The overall SAT score is right in range of OSU, even though the CR might be a bit low.

That ACT score is going to kill you SEnior_08. Unless you have a very high class rank and are either a 1st generation college student or urm (or preferably both), I’d say Ohio State’s a big reach. Putting your ACT in perspective, 91% of last year’s class scored a 24 or over, so it’s safe to assume that the other 9% had some very strong other factors going for them.

If Senior08 is instate, I’d say he has a solid chance. Kids with similar stats from my school have gotten in consistently over the past 5 years.

For the Columbus campus, I would say it’s a long shot in-state. Worse for OOS.

Not sure if I believe that. The statistics say otherwise. Nobody is getting into Ohio State these days with a 22 ACT unless there are other mitigating factors.

He’s welcome to apply, but I’d definitely advise him to fire off an app to Ohio U. or Miami as a backup.

senior08, You only have some chance if your essays were absolutly great

damn i wish a 3.3 was a top 20 in my school i might have had a chance

^Seriously person1, I know what you mean…I have a 3.45 and im in the top 30%!!! and that’s what got me postponed at my top choice school (UW-Madison)..If I was in the OP’s school Id be top 15% probably :frowning:
Ranking is so BS

^^^ (to Sh60614) Ohio U probably … but Miami shouldn’t be considered an OSU backup by any means.

Miami has similar test score ranges and admissions standards. I concede that they do have a higher admit rate … but I think Miami applicants are more self-selecting, whereas it seems like every kid in Ohio sends an app to OSU.

Miami has higher freshman retention and graduation rates, smaller class sizes, better admission statistics for law school and med school, an incredibly beautiful campus, and more geographic diversity

Sorry for going off on a tirade, but it’s inaccurate to imply that Miami is inferior to OSU. Most people in my part of ohio consider Miami a better academic school for undergraduate study.

Ohioguy - Having looked at both Miami and OSU-Columbus this past year, I can’t say that I agree with most of your statements, but I do agree that they have a beautiful campus. Other than that, I think the Columbus campus trumps MUO in most - if not all- categories (other than Paper Engineering - they have a rather unique program in that).

I actually liked Miami a lot. But my S didn’t. His words were something to the effect of “If I wanted to go to a reasonably priced, in-state school with a decent array of quality programs, on a beautiful campus in a tiny town in the middle of nowhere where everyone is exactly like me, MUO would be a good choice.”

Or something like that… He chose OSU.

ohioguy218, I’ll agree that Miami’s freshman class profile is a lot closer to Ohio State’s than OU’s, but there still is a noticeable gap that goes beyond simply the admit rate.

Middle 50% of ACT scores
Ohio State: 26-30
Miami: 24-28

Percent Scoring 30+ on ACT
Ohio State: 27%
Miami 15%

Percent in top tenth of high school class
Ohio State 57%
Miami 35%
