chance me pleaseee!

Hi all,
I plan on going into medicine. I am interested in perhaps biomedical engineering, biochemistry, and economics as an undergraduate major. So far I have applied ED to Brown University's program in liberal medical education. I am looking for some other schools with good medical school acceptance rates and great science programs.
I know that my test scores are low, but I am just very bad at taking standardized tests. Also with ACTs is it possible to mix the scores because than I would have a 30-31ish...or should I just send both reports to all my colleges?

Thank you,
-Raghu

rappasani is online now

good luck, u have a good chance with those experiences

thank youu for ur input...i really want to go heree

anyone else ? u do think i have a shot

bump......

Not a chance with those SAT scores at Brown and most likely not NYU either.

You have great extracurriculars and a stellar work experience...but realistically to meet NYU's standards you need at least a one-hundred point increase (two hundred would be ideal) in each SAT subject. I'd throw Brown out completely. If you had 30+ on the ACTs you'd have at least a chance...but Brown is extremely selective.

However...schools take chances (Brown is less reliable because they've got that "hippie" feel, so who knows). And what you do outside of school is impressive. But I'd apply to a few more safties. Good luck.

I just looked back -- What do you mean by putting the ACT scores together? If you mean combine math, english, reading, and science -- that's ACT's job, and 28 was your "scores put together."

i meant like combining ACT sections from different testings. I took the test in April and October. If I take the best from each and composite I get a 30

Oh. Nope, can't do that either. A score can only be comprised of the four tests taken on the same day. That'd be nice though, wouldn't it?

Actually NYU does superscore the act.

reallly? sweeeet!

Won't be sweet enough for you to get into NYU though

don't be an assh*le, hssenior. if you don't think he can get in, at least you could be nice about it and suggest something he could have improved on. people like you who are too high and mighty to ever be nice to people are the reason i HATE collegeconfidential.

hsseniolooking, you already mentioned once your opinion, why must you declare it again?

Hey guys, I contacted NYU undergraduate admissions, and they said that they do NOT superscore the ACT.

Your GPA and EC's are fab, the tests are low. HOWEVER looks like you have a strong science focus? If it gives you hope, I had an HORRID SAT math score (550) I went to the Princeton review course and TWO different private tutors (one was $150/hour and said "I have NEVER had a student NOT go up 100 points)... what did I get???? 10 more points on the math, but the confidence that I WAS GOING to do so much better on the math helped me go up 110 points on the reading/writing.

So that was my strategy. Focus on what I was strong at... I wanted to go into journalism, spent every summer studying writing, had strong writing oriented EC's, and of course when you can write really well the essays and short answers are a breeze.

Now my combined SAT was still 2030 (which was still on the low side for CAS) but many got in with lower to GSP

So bottom line, the tests aren't everything. LOTS AND LOTS of kids were rejected with 200 points higher than me. REALLY Focus on what your'e great at (looks like medical research/science) and they might very well overlook the reading SAT

Best of luck

hmm arite ..ya i also got a tutor and was doing great on the practice tests..but on test day i just stressed out too much...

i am hoping that my science research can help me out..do u think that maybe making an appointment with admissions will help out at all?

thank youu
