chance me pleaseee!

Hi all,
I plan on going into medicine. I am interested in perhaps biomedical engineering, biochemistry, and economics as an undergraduate major. So far I have applied ED to Brown University's program in liberal medical education. I am looking for some other schools with good medical school acceptance rates and great science programs.
I know that my test scores are low, but I am just very bad at taking standardized tests. Also with ACTs is it possible to mix the scores because than I would have a 30-31ish...or should I just send both reports to all my colleges?

Thank you,

You can find the new data on the Admissions profile for the current first-year class here: Admissions Profile

This will give you alot of information on the number of applicants to each faculty and the number actually enrolled.
It will give you a profile of where applicants come from and how many are admitted from the US, Quebec, etc.

The information also includes the median gpa and test scores for entering students. You can compare your scores to these to get your own idea of your chances.

Also, McGill does not look at any ec's or work experience as part of the admissions process, although they will use them if you apply for a major scholarship.

It's a low reach to match depending on which faculty you apply to.

Grades:
It really depends on what your GPA translates to. What is a 4.58 out of 5 convert to on a 4.0 scale? Because the median for admitted students is a 3.7/4. If you convert that proportionally to fifths, it's a 4.625/5, which would put you a little bit below the median for students who are accepted and matriculate to McGill. I don't know how exactly your school comes up with your GPA and I am not sure whether McGill includes honors weight so it's hard to chance for that.

Scores:
Your critical reading and writing SAT scores are inadmissible. You need in most years a 620 at the lowest to be admitted, and some years it's as high as 650. The math SAT I score is acceptable for any faculty. Your SAT II scores for US History and Biology will normally meet the minimum for admission, the Math scores would be borderline. Your ACT composite score is at or above the minimum most years. Your individual section scores need to be 24+ to meet the minimum. They allow a form of superscoring because it allows you to enter your highest individual grade in any section of the ACT or SAT. I believe you would have to enter your highest composite score for one sitting, but admissions would see the scores that equal a higher composite so it can't hurt. The median ACT composite for admitted students is a 30 so you're right about average if you superscore. I'd submit the ACT scores only without any SAT II scores because it would probably help the most. If you submit any SAT II scores, they also see the SAT I scores. I don't know if that would hurt you though.

Your ECs are great and you probably should apply for a scholarship but your grades and scores are a bit low to expect any money. Who knows, though, because you have excellent extracurriculars and it might just pay off.

Just out of curriosity, to which faculties are you applying? If you are applying for Arts and Sciences, it's a long shot because they take a very limited number of people (in a normal faculty about 15-20% of applicants eventually enroll, in BA.Sc. about 6% do). For Sciences you could get in though I'm not too sure if the Math Subject Test scores would be sufficient. I'd think you have a good shot at Arts. Of course, if you choose to only submit the ACT then you would probably be good for all of them.

Don't quote me on this, but I'm pretty sure McGill doesn't look at extracurriculars. Also, they only look at essays if you're applying for scholarships.

Correct^^^

They don't look at ECs or essays for admission. They look at both for scholarships:

You must submit a "Factual list of principal interests or activities while in school or CEGEP." In other words, a resume.

You must also submit a list of up to 6 books/articles read during the past year which weren't required fro school and you must pick one and write up to a 200 word essay on why you read it and how it was significant. You must also submit up to a 500 word essay on whwere you expect to be in 20 years and what will have been the role of your education.

You may also be interviewed.

^^^You're either reiterating what I said, or contradicting your above post. Either way, he knows he isn't in any position for a scholarship; he was merely asking how his/her chances were at this school.

ur Sats are really low, but you still have a chance

arite thank you all for ur help. I think i will just submit my ACT scores

You said that they don't look at ECs. That is false for the scholarships--ECs are if anything, the most important thing. Just trying to clarify, because what you seem to be saying is that only essays matter for scholarships.
