Chance Me pleaseee

Class Rank: 4 out of 543
GPA: 3.8
I know I for sure have enough extra curricular activities. Probs about 14 clubs, officer in 8.
SAT: My last score was a 1820, but my practice tests for my next one will probably bring me up to 2100
SAT 2s: 710 Math 2, 740 Math 1
ACT: 29, taking it again
Volunteer Hours: about 200, should I get more?

I think you have a fair chance. Your volunteer hours look fine and your ACT score looks good to me. Keep in mind that you are up against a couple of thousand people that have the same stats as you have;so your essay is really the thing that will make it or break it for you as well as your recommendations. Good luck.

The OP’s ACT score is fine? Uhhh, looks very low to me…

Remember, schools like Columbia aren’t looking for a laundary list; they’re looking for passion and dedication. And dont get volunteer hours for colleges…get volunteer hours because you actually want to volunteer.

Looks pretty good but those test scores will kill you if you dont bring them up. like invisible monster said, emphasize dedication. im in some and im not even listing them so i recommend you do the same
also, http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1005943-chance-senior-will-chance-back.html</a></p>

Oh, I should also probably say that I am asian. Does that affect anything?

@invisible

geez you don’t have to bash… I was just trying to help. I’m not a huge hound of test scores. Yeah they need to be high BUT that’s not what’s going to make it or break it for you. Of course there is a cut off and exceptions but still. I’m more relaxed when it comes to these things so maybe that’s why you reacted the way you did to my comment…but okay.

hey can someone help me out http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/columbia-university/1005900-what-my-chances-ed-engineering.html</a></p>

I need specifics on your clubs before i can help you. What major do you want to pursue?
Did you take any AP or IB courses?

Your rank is really great, but your SAT and ACT scores are a serious problem. I don’t like your attitude about volunteering, and I think that being an officer in 8 clubs doesn’t necessarily showcase passion, nor leadership. Good job on your SAT II’s.

That being said, I didn’t mean for this to sound negative or discouraging. I don’t really understand the point of chance threads–it’s usually too late to really change anything.

Ultimately, I wish you the best of luck in the admissions process. The finish line is in sight!

Oh yeah, and I’ve heard that being Asian constitutes an ORM, aka it is detrimental to your application. It makes sense, considering the huge number of Asians in top colleges in proportion to the Asian-American population in general.

Can anyone confirm?

i’m asian and i doubt that’s true. i mean, as long as you stand out in some way, it doesn’t really matter what you are huh? so just stand out in something, maybe it’s your essay, EC, or whatever. good luck everyone
