I have tons of volunteer work (homeless shelter, special Olympics, summer school preschool volunteer and much more)
I am also a swimmer, since I was 7 and planning on swimming in college so this Will hopefully help.

School activities:
NHS
World language NHS
Student council hr rep
Student council executive board
Key club

Should have good teacher recs and hopefully good essay!
This is my list:
NYU (top choice)
Columbia/Barnard (dream school but I know unrealistic)
Fordham
Wagner
Vassar
Loyola md
College of charleston
Ithaca
Providence
Keene state

I suggest you take the SATs one more time if NYU is your top choice.
Columbia is definitely a high reach. NYU is a reach if you don’t bring up your SATs. And I can’t speak for the other colleges because I don’t know about their admissions criteria, but I believe Fordham is a target. Good luck!

Your SAT is LOW for NYU. And with that SAT score, I would put Columbia far out of reach. 1950+ for NYU CAS, 2100+ for Columbia.

Thank you… I’m actually planning on applying directing into the NYU liberal studies program… I think they are easier on SAT scores. Thoughts?

Standardized test scores definitely aren’t everything - have you considered taking the ACT? I almost got the exact same SAT score, and I took the ACT and got a 30 - it converts to about a 2000 SAT score, and puts you in the ballpark of where you want to be. And yes, I was accepted to NYU.

Wow I had that exact SAT score (even the exact breakdown) and I got into CAS soo… <__<

Good that makes me feel better! I’m taking the ACT in September and some subject tests in october so maybe that’ll help. I’m also applying early decision!

I’d raise that SAT if I were you. Have you tried emailing the coaches about swimming? I was recruited to swim last year at NYU. Try filling out a recruiting questionnaire.

GPA is pretty weak
SAT is really weak

But you seem to be set on your extracurriculars, so that’s good
Honestly, I think you need at LEAST a 2k to stand a chance for NYU (depending on which school btw) and at lest a 2200+ for Columbia

wish you luck, fellow key clubber! cept I’m an alumni starting this year hahaha
bonam fortunam!

How on earth is a 93% average “pretty weak”?

Bring up that SAT and you have a very good chance.

A 93 average can get you into the Ivy League; definitely not “weak”. Her class rank is okay, but certainly good enough for CAS. Get up your SAT and you may even have a slight chance at Columbia. Stranger things have happened, and less qualified applicants have gotten in.
