Pitzer: Mid reach
NYU Macaulay Honors: low reach

SUNY Bing: match
SUNY Stonybrook: match

I would suggest looking into University of Delaware, University of Maryland College Park, Colby, University of Virginia

Macaulay Honors pertains to Hunter, not NYU.

NYU is a separate school…

Work on your SAT scores, and then you’ll be BALLIN

Jenny…is that you?
LOL

Lol how’d you know

Pinkberry…and the fact that you wrote BALLIN’.
Lol.

BUMMP

Bummmmppppp!

Bummmmppppppppp!!!

Bummmmmmmmmmppppppp!

does your school do grade inflation? because I am very surprised that someone with an A+ average would get such a low SAT score…
What were your AP scores? We need more to go on besides that you took the exams. If you got a 2, for example, that would tell us (and mainly colleges) that even though you got good grades your school wasn’t that rigorous and vice versa.

Dartmouth:mid reach
Cornell: mid reach
Yale: high reach
Columbia: high reach
Amherst: high reach
Swarthmore: mid reach
Hamilton: Low Reach
Pitzer: match

Thanks bobdylan. My school is pretty rigorous. I have a very challanging course load.

The reason for the low SAT score is because I took it cold. I’ve been studying and practicing and I’m able to hit 2230+. So, that’s good.

Thanks!
Will chance you back.

And SAT scores are not dependent on how well you do in school - the stuff on SATs is not tied to actual cirriculum covered in school. I see what you’re saying though.

Like what everybody’s said, your SAT score is going to preclude you from making it into the first five schools on your list. However, I like your extracurriculars and class rank.

Thanks.

Do you have any other suggestions regarding the following:

Which SAT IIs I should take?

Other schools to consider?

Should I take the ACT?

Thanks Keasbey!

Bumpp. 10char.

I’m in the class of Hogwarts 2013!!!

Bumpppppppp!!!

Dartmouth - reach
Cornell - reach/low reach
Yale - reach
Columbia - reach
Amherst - reach
Swarthmore - reach/low reach
NYU - high match
Vassar - high match/match

If you get the SAT’s to a 2230, you should definitely up your chances a lot. Good EC’s, but not amazing. Get the SAT’s up and you should get into 1 or more of those reaches. Good luck!

Chance back?
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/748621-chance-ivies.html

Thanks elevenoclock!

Good luck to you in the college process as well.

I chanced you and you seem like an amazing candidate.
:)

Hmmm alright, yeah you definitely have to try and bump up the SAT score, and/or try your hand at the ACT and see how you fare. Actually, on second thought, TAKE THE ACT. Just do it. Back to SAT though, if you pass the 2000 threshold in SAT, then you’ll have a GREAT chance.

But… STONY BROOK?! WTTFF! Come on, I think you can find better.

None of the ivies are anything but the HIGHEST reaches. Even Cornell, its admit rate dropped like hell, and it’s not so easy to get in anymore.

NYU… my god, are you gonna become a druggie hipster now??? Hell. Come on, you may not live in the city, but you have to know that NYU is a grossly overrated concentration camp of a college! And dude… if your parents are actually gonna let you apply to Pitzer… why not add Stanford? I have a lot of respect for that school, even if most of its students are nearly 50% as miserable as Harvard kids (but they have sunshine and spontaneous fountain jumping to compensate!).

If you get the SAT up, it pretty much only depends on your recs and essay. While the ECs are important, at the top tier schools, they aren’t enough on their own to distinguish you from other applicants, since basically EVERYONE is applying with credentials like that, or better. The essay is where you can distinguish yourself, make yourself memorable, and make the admissions officer feel like they NEED someone as unique as yourself.

And if at all possible, it’s always nice to be able to read your teacher’s recs. If you’re especially close with them, they’ll probably let you, too ;)

Hmmm… maybe try the Chem SAT II too?

Also, whoever called Swarthmore a mid-reach is a fool. Swarthmore, along with Amherst and Williams, is one of the top liberal arts colleges, and is JUST AS MUCH a bytch to get into. Have to keep it realistic. I can say though, from my interview with them, they LOVE people who find ways to pledge to take full advantage of their resources, and people who love learning. Try to weave those into their essays ;)

If you want a diverse school, from my memory, Gettysburg is one of the LEAST diverse schools in the country.

Have you looked at Middlebury? One of my friends is going there on Posse, you might wanna take a look at them too. Also a high reach though.

I’ve heard nearly UNANIMOUSLY negative reviews on Barnard. It’s in a kind of weird limbo between being an independent college, and being Columbia’s bytch. People attending it have told me that they sometimes don’t feel like legitimate college students.

Also, Bing is NOT a safety. It has one of the lowest admit rates of the SUNYs. It is most definitely a target (match).

Have you looked at Skidmore for a possible match/safety? It’s another liberal arts college, upstate though.

AND FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, DO NOT WRITE YOUR ESSAY ON ANYTHING PURELY ACADEMIC! Just trust me on this one. If your topic IS academic (like, on writing or something) write about it in away that gives it depth, meaning, and that evokes emotion in the reader.

Hmmmm I think that’s enough stuff for one post. :D
