Chance Me Pleassee! CAS Early Dec.

Just found this board and freaking out about getting into NYU, any help would be great!

Senior from Los Angles, CA
Female
White

SAT: 1770
CR: 540
M: 580
W: 650

SAT IIs:
Math 2: 590
US Hist: 580

GPA: 4.1 average

Class rank: 17/490 ish

I got 2's on both AP Lang and AP US unfortunately.. I hope that doesn't hurt me too bad...

Current Classes: AP Lit, AP Calc, AP Psych, Gov, ASB [student gov], Theatre.

ASB for 5 years, Currently ASB Vice President. Played softball, in Theatre, Nat. Honors Society Member, Key Club member, GSA club President.

I want to apply Early Decision to CAS as a journalism major. I also job shadowed at the local city newspaper. In need of any and all financial aid/scholarships.

Any feedback will really help, thank you very much!! :D

Your SAT's are the things that are hurting you... is there another chance for you to take it again? Because those are too low to be safe, even for Early Decision.

Yeah test-taking is not one of your skills, heh. You don't have to show them your AP scores, it won't help haha.

Your GPA and ECs are going for you though. Out of 1600 you only have a 1120, the NYU range is 1300-1440. If you can get it within that range and write a really really really good personal statement, you can do it. Why not! Haha

I know.. thats my weakest point... I am taking the SAT again in a month and am going to try to study insanely to raise it.. but I dunno if it's even possible for me to raise 100 points. At least an 1860 would be alright I think. In this college book I have it says NYU's range is 1240-1430, so thats about 100 points more..

Also, I was considering taking SATs a third time in November. but my question is.. if I apply Nov 1 Early Dec. then isnt the Nov SAT date too late?

thank you all so much for your help!

It must be old because on the NYU website, the Class of 2012 has middle range of 1300-1440.

Yeah they say that November scores usually arrive in time to be considered, but you gotta decide whether you wanna raise your SAT IIs or do SAT I a third time, cause I personally don't think 3 SAT tests look very good. Looks like you're trying too hard, you know what I mean?

Three SAT tests is fine. 1300-1440, really?

I have my doubts about that. Damn you CollegeBoard!!

I got in NYU with SAT IIs about the same if not a little lower than that but my SAT score was a 2170. You need to raise your SAT scores majorly. Focus on math and cr though, don't worry so much about writing.

I don't think there is any penalty for taking it three times. Maybe 5 times is a little sketchy but 3, nah...

wow with that score I wouldn't doubt you got in. I even took an SAT Prep class.. but when it comes down to it I'm not a good test taker and I go blank and worry about the time.

The math and critical reading are we weakest points.. but thats mainly because I'm a better writer, I mean I do want to be a journalist so thats probably why.

I'm going to study for SATs again as much as I can but I dont think I can raise it anymore than 100 or so points.. that'd be a miracle
