i'm a junior right now. i reallyyy want to apply to cornell next year. my test scores are good (2270 SAT, 800 japanese and math II, taking another subj test june) and take all honors and ap classes at my school. but my unweighted gpa is only 3.4 (weighted about 3.75). my first ap class in sophomore year (ap us history), got a c- my first semester, and straight B's, then raised it up to almost straight A's by second semester. but similar things are happening this year.. and I completely messed up my first semester of junior year.. in AP language and composition, i got another C...now i'm thinking maybe i should've taken less rigorous courses and gotten higher grades. What's really worrying me is that i'm a JUNIOR, and I don't know if one more semester is enough time to show my progression.

I have 3 awards from national latin exam, 4 awards from art contests, 2 awards from music contests. I served as the principal viola player in my orchestra last year and is vice president of the red cross club. I got a 212 on my PSAT this year - pretty sure i'll be commended. I've done about 350+ hours of community service from freshman year.

do you think I have enough things to compensate for my grades?..
