Class rank: top 5%

Desired major: computer science

And finally...colleges!!!:
Carnegie Mellon (ED)
UC Berkeley
Stanford

I think you’ll get in to all of those schools. May I ask why ED to Carnegie Mellon?

It’s close to some of my family and I love the campus. Thing is, those in the School of comp. Science have an unweighted GPA of 3.79 :(

Bump. Anyone? and how much would being a URM help in CMU? (i understand there’s no effect in Cali schools)

I hope you have sample computer programming work to offer as supplementary material! I’m not sure what to make of your GPA since I don’t know what it is out of nor do I know your rank… You seem to have a very very good chance of getting into CMU-I believe that your status as URM would help there. Definitely would help at Stanford.
CMU-match
UC Berkeley (out of state? in?) match or low reach depending on state residency
Stanford- reach because its stanford
Thanks for chancing me!! Best of luck to you!!

Something that I didn’t considering adding until a friend told me is that I help feed the homeless every other Friday. I originally didn’t want to include it (I never even put it in as community service hours!) because it was something I do simply because I want to. Will this really give me an edge in a school of computer science? Another addition is that I did 75+ hours volunteering at a hospital. And lastly, while my rank is top 5%, I’m unsure of the numerical ranking, but I assume it’s in the 30s/850. Any feedback on this chance is appreciated. :D

UCB i think you’re definitely in, stanford i think pretty much speaks for itself but definitely go for it, carnegie mellon idk enough about to judge lol

Which AP classes? 5.23 Weighted GPA? Care to elaborate? You seem fit for CMU, UCB, but reach for Stanford… as always.

As being in IB, 6/7 of my junior year classes were 6.0 and in sophomore year I had one AP class and all but one was honors. AP classes from sophomore to junior year were:
AP World -5
AP Chem -5
AP Eng Lang -4
AP Calc AB -5
(not that AP test scores matter in admission)

However like I said before, CMU School of Comp. Sci’s average GPA is 3.79. If I had include 1st sem. of senior year GPA then I know I can bring it up, but I’m not sure. Hopefully being a URM is enough of a hook. Thanks for the feedback!

Honestly, I think you have a chance, but it’s dependent on your essays, while your scores are good, your ECs are predictable …

Thanks! It really means a lot. I’ll try to get more involved in other clubs, I guess. Any other advice is greatly appreciated.
