So you are an international student? That definitely helps. I’m not familiar with the TOEFL scores but I will say that you have an extremely low GPA. I think the GPA is lower than the averages for all these schools. The SAT is low for Colgate, NYU, and GW. I’m not really sure how your international status will affect you but I would consider adding some more safeties. Even state schools like UMASS are seeing an influx in applications which will make things even tougher

Yes, I am an international student.
Actually my overall GPA is affected by one year’s decline. I have a GPA of 3.3-3.5 for my first and third year, but my GPA for my second year is only 2.0. Now, my senior year’s fall term GPA is quite high (around 3.4 or 3.5).

I hope the colleges won’t mind about my second year’s grade.

I don’t mean to be nosy, but why did was your second year so poor? Do you explain it in your essay/ counselor rec/ additional info, if there were extenuating circumstances?

NYU is practically a “new ivy” so I think its a pretty big reach, as well as GW, Colgate and even BU…BU has a pretty high (in comparison to most schools people on CC are applying to) acceptance rate, around 59% - but keep in mind that although their SAT averages aren’t that much high than yours, most of the kids who get in have much higher GPAs…

Basically what I’m saying is: if you have a really good reason for your 2.0 that you’ve clearly explained, go for it and reach. But keep in mind that most of these are huge reach schools compared to your transcript, and look into more safeties where you wouldn’t mind going to school…Hey, you can always get your GPA up and transfer later!
:)

well. My counselor told me to put a paragraph about my second year. I did. I mainly talked about my new friends who distracted me from academic work.

^I honestly don’t think that’s a good reason at all unless those kids were pressuring you into hardcore drug use through psychological bullying.
But even then… O_O…
I’m going to have to say your chances at a lot of those universities are kind of slim especially since you are an international and have low scores. I don’t think NYU is a possibility either.

You really don;t have a good chance unless you boost your GPA up. Without that then I would say, no you don’t have a good chance. If your GPA goes up like you said then yeah you have a chance.

GW is a great great school, your dad doesnt know much…sorrry, but yea to OP, your shots are looking slim with low GPA, and a relatively low SAT in terms of 1600, those LAC’s like them like 1280+, pray for your essays to come through strong
