Chance me pls

Female, Asian, junior, just the usual here...

Weighted GPA: ~5.52 (private schools do the A-/A/A+ thing and it kills fml)
Idk unweighted but I've taken 11 AP classes (1 freshman, 2 sophomore, 5 junior) and I plan on taking another 5 next year) and I've gotten all As and 2 B+s

Basically I'm in the mid/lower top 5% of 320ish students, but our school doesn't rank

SAT: 2290 superscored; CR 760 W 760 M 770 (I took it 3 times lol)
Subject tests: 780 bio, 800 math, 770 chem

Taking the ACT next week... -cries-

ECs: secretary of community service for NHS, president of multicultural club (even tho all we do is eat food), coordinator of blood drives (this is pretty big for me), 11 years piano, 4 years flute in youth orchestra, officer in Robotics, mu alpha theta, rho kappa, science honor society, science bowl, peer tutoring, tennis, piano tutor...

Mainly piano, flute, tutoring, and running my school's blood drives haha. Everything else is BS/relatively insignificant

My AP lang. + comp. teacher whipped us into pretty good shape this year so I think my essays will be kick butt and I'm a rather social person (lol) so interviews will be fine too.

I originally thought I had some decent chances in getting into schools like Duke, Dartmouth, Cornell, etc. but after seeing a large number of my insanely overachieving friends get rejected this year, I'm starting to doubt myself.

SO CC-ers, with your great wisdom and experience, please help me out by letting me know the schools I should be looking into realistically based on my stats. Unfortunately I'm the major minority (Chinese over here) and not first generation and not from some tragic background (well, actually I'm pretty fortunate ngl) and well...at least I'm female? Lol...

Thank you!!!!

My classes were largely premed centered (ap bio, ap chem, ap physics b, anatomy+physiology, etc.) but I decided sometime last year that I really don’t wanna graduate when I’m 27 or something, so I’m thinking business or maybe even law. Taken ap human geo, APUSH, and ap world (if that’s even relevant to the field idk) and pretty good at math.

The kids who are top of my grade are all like super mathletes or science-y people (I’m gonna say I’m ranked around 10ish and prob 2nd female) so if I plan on going liberal arts that may help??

Also, EDs another option so give me some feedback on that too.

Again, thanks :)))

Stats are pretty good. EC’s are ehhh… But can’t change that now! Write great essays, and while they are still reaches(as they are for everyone), you’ll have a great shot. If you have any specific questions, feel free to PM me! I’m a recently graduated senior, so all this stuff is fresh in my mind.

@noel597‌ thank you! I know my ECs don’t seem like a lot but idk I feel like I have more all-around ECs compared to other people on my year who have only like math competition and science fair awards.

Just wondering, I’ve won loads of piano competitions but they’re probably useless in the application process, right? NHS and peer tutoring are typical ECs I guess lol. Not that I can change anything, but what ECs would be good?

Congratulations on graduating btw, and thanks for the help :)

You have a great shot at getting into at least one of those 3 colleges. Stats are at par, and if you focus on piano (the competitions will, actually, really show your commitment) as your major focus then that could work too. I know a person who got into Cornell ED with average ec’s and a 2190 (high gpa though), so you should be fine

What caliber of the competitions? I mentioned a few of my piano awards on my apps :)

@noel597‌ state-wide at the 3 highest levels c: it’s a big time consumer lol… Love it nonetheless

bump :3

The GPA throws me off, haha. I mean looking at your test scores alone, you should be good for Duke. But then maybe look to ED to a Cornell or Dartmouth and/or visit one to see if you fall in love to know that’s the place you want to be. I would say Cornell and Dartmouth regular are slight reaches, but they’re ivies and you should keep that in mind as several overachievers will always be rejected. I had a friend with a 5.1 W GPA in public school and ended up at Northwestern after being rejected by all the ivies, even with a 2350. Not to discourage you, anything’s possible and you have great EC’s. But just know that it almost comes down to luck of the draw when competing for ivy spots.

@VineyardVinesS‌ yeah our school does 4.0/4.33/4.67 for A-/A/A+ in regular classes, 5.0, etc. for honors and 6.0, etc. for AP. in theory the highest GPA you can get is 6.67 which is straight A+s in all AP classes but obviously that’s not a thing lol.

And thanks for the advice  I’m actually going to visit a bunch of schools in New England in a couple of weeks.

Of course! I don’t know exactly what you’re into, but visit all the ivies and single out your favorites, then look at some second tier (Georgetown, Duke, BC maybe, Villanova) and some smaller schools (Wesleyan, Middlebury, Williams, Amherst). Obviously I don’t know what you’re into, but those seem like good calls. Good luck!

bumppp
