ALSO: I was looking at the combined program at Union college and Albany medical school. It seems easier to get into, but i have conflicting data on whether the MCAT is needed. Even more, I read that Albany Medical college isn't that great. Is it worth it?

Union/Albany doesn’t require the MCAT. IMHO, that program is really expensive and only worth it if you have $$$ to spend and really have an interest in medical management. AMC may not be at the top of the rankings but a med school is a med school.

jen08jen08,
You pointed out to the most selective programs in a country. D who graduated #1 with ACT=33 did not even apply there, she will have to take MCAT in her program, but she needs an everage score of 27, which most people consider reasonable, since most are taking MCAT prep classes.

The program(2) without MCAT that I am aware of that is much less selective than 2 that you mentioned, are U of Toledo. I also suggest to include the programs that require MCAT.

Yea? I didn’t know about the U of Toledo. UMKC is one of the ones I’m looking into more, the problem with it though is that 85-90% of the people they accept are Missouri residents. They have a strong favor to local residents.

Also, Is SLU any good? I mean their med school is better than Albany’s. It’s not a guaranteed admission but 95% get in. Do any of you kno how difficult it is to get into that program or if there are any special requirements?

i was accepted to both the UMKC and SLU programs with much lower stats than yours (class of 2009), and i ended up choosing slu since i dont think i was ready for a 6 yr program and since i too find slu’s med school to be of a higher quality…if u need any help with the process ask or message anytime!

thanks hehs503434. But that reminds me, is the fact that I never did any research or wrote a report ok? I mean I volunteered at the hospital and I shadowed (here and in India), but is that enough? Any other tips to give an edge?

wow, I feel stupid, thanks! So are there only 15 seats max then? That seems tough, isn’t it? Or are there just less people applying or something? Does anyone know SLU’s medical scholars program acceptance rate?
