Hey guys,
I applied this year to UC Santa Cruz (and other campuses). I am worried because I only have a 2.7 ( I know extremely low). But it was because I was struggling with my health for the last four years . However for the last two semesters I have been doing very well. I wrote a very strong personal statement and also have a lot of volunteer, experiences and extra curriculums. I am a biology major.
So what do you guys think??

I don’t think you can get into a UC with below a 3.0 I think it’s there minimum requirement.

the minimum is a 2.4 for all the UCs

What daydreamer said. You need a 3.0 minimum to be eligible to apply. OOS need a 3.4 min I believe.

As a tranfer student you need a 3.0? are you sure?

Just looked on their website and yeah you need a 3.0 to attend if you live in-state and like annathatshibby you need a 3.4 GPA if you are out of state.

You must have at least a 3.0 GPA (3.4 if you’re a nonresident).

Only freshmen need a minimum of 3.0/3.4 OOS. For transfers, look at StatFinder (for UCSC) and you’ll see that students below 3.0 do get admitted under Biological Sciences.

A kid who lives across the hall from me got in with a 2.5. But we’re transfers so… that might make the difference.

oh nice …thanks for the information iggykins… i am a transfer student also so hopefully that puts a plus towards admission with exceptions … i reviewed the statfinder and saw there were few good numbers with exceptions…soo i am crossing my fingers!!

ohh by the way … thanxs RemyCorie for the infor for the StatFinder and clarifying about the GPA requirements… I was doubting what I read hahaha

I know this is going to be difficult to hear, but I don’t think your chances are good. True UCSC has a minimum requirement of 2.4 for transfer students - but that is the very bottom of the barrel. I watched a video on youtube that featured a UCSC admissions director answering questions about transfer students for Fall 2011, and he said that they will basically be excluding applicants who have below a 2.8 for this year because they just have way too many people applying right now (8,000 transfer applicants for Fall 2011)
For UC’s, you really need a 3.0 or higher to get in. Times are different and they will be forced to dismiss a handful of students who don’t qualify simply because there is no room.
I really do hope you make it though, and good luck this Semester. I am applying as a transfer student with a 3.1 so even I don’t feel too great about my chances.
