Hey there guys!
I know now is not an usual time, for a Fall 2016 transfer applicant, to ask about chance. However, I just cannot stop feeling nervous. Please hit me with whatever come to mind as you read my stats, as long as your thoughts are rational and justifiable.
Ethnicity: Asian (international student)
Gender: female
Standardized test scores:
SAT 2180 (CR720, MA790, WR670)
SAT Subject (MA II 770, Chem 750)
TOEFL 103 (R28, L27, S26, W22)
High school GPA: around 3.6-3.7, I am not sure–we had a different system
Current school: UIUC
Current year: freshman (Class of 2019)
Major: psychology
College GPA:
First semester-3.85 over 17 credit hours (1 for research experience and 16 GPA hours for one 100 level psychology course, honor; one 100 level economics course; one 100 level chemistry course, honor; one writing course; one first year seminar, honor) dean’s list & honor program
Second semester-3.93 over 16 credit hours (1 for research experience and 15 GPA hours for three 200 level psychology courses, one 200 level animal science course, and one 100 level classical civilization course) as shown on the mid-year report (one A- in animal science and other four were all As)
ECs: pretty ordinary-one leadership (2-year student government in high school), two research assistantships (in both high school and college, each for a year), several volunteer services (in both high school and college), two internships (in high school), and one club (environment sustainability type, in college)
Recommendation letters: from my advisor (psychology dept. head advisor) and my writing professor. I did not ask to read their letters, but since they both agreed to write me one easily and paid attention to “how did everything go”, I’d guess 8/10.
Essays: overall 7.5/10; with PS 8, Vanderbilt 7.5, Wellesley 7.5, Tufts 7.5, and Notre Dame 7.
Financial Aid: did not apply (may appeal after enrollment if my family’s financial situation goes downhill)
I have already been admitted to Vanderbilt, whom I need to reply and pay the non-refundable matriculation fee to by 4/29. I am not that rich so I wish I could save the 400 dollars if I can be sure I won’t attend. I wonder what my chances are for rest of the schools–if slim, I should pay the fee and apply for housing as soon as possible.
I apologize if my writing is bad and thanks you guys in advance!
