Excellent recommendations (my History teacher and my Physics teacher)

i know my SAT writing score was garbage, will my ap language grade make up for it?

Both the GPA and the SAT scores are a little low...the ACT score is decent for MIT. The amount of Calc preparation might look good, but it depends on how you actually did in the classes. You had good grades on 3 APs, but that is actually a rather low number of APs taken. The APs you take your senior year will be very important and how you do on them will also be very vital to your overall chances at MIT.

I would probably take the SAT again if I were you, but you don't have to. I personally would say that the AP will not make up for the poor SAT, but if you continually do really well on the APs maybe you can swing it.

The ECs are good, but not really great.

You probably need a really good senior year to bring up the GPA, get great scores on the APs and go from there. I wont say you dont have a shot b/c you probably do, but you need to do the things that will make you a better candidate. I would not rely on recommendations to get in...do the work, but also have fun, and it will all pay off.

GOOD LUCK!

Nedthehobo - You look pretty set on paper. Remember, though, that your personality really has to come through in the application too. They look for people that fit and that are dedicated, hard workers.

Jman21's response is a little too daunting for my tastes. I had the same ACT score, similar SAT (low reading though, not writing) and lower subject test scores. I had 3 APs in junior year, and 5 in senior year. I had a few ECs that I was really dedicated too - just like you. I got in EA. Your scores are not low - they are actually the average or above average for MIT people.

You definitely qualify as a competitive applicant. Now you just have to shine. :D Best of luck to you!
