It's tough to say... since you already have your app in, I think you are okay.

Hi john6391!

Yeah ... I agree with Krieger ... your case is quite difficult to chance.

Are you URM? If you are that helps.

First off, your GPA at 3.25 is a little bit low for Michigan State. The bottom 25th percentile is 3.45. If you have taken APs or Honors, that may help compensate for your lower grade point.

Your ACT at 24 is also on the low end of Michigan State's ACT range. The bottom 25th percentile is 23.

Other than that, I can see that you're involved and you seem interested in State. You have applied early, but you also need to consider the fact that State has been increasing its standards for admission lately.

I'd say that Mich State U is a slight reach for you, because the GPA will go against you.

im also in state if that helps and the 3.45 GPA in their profile is weighted
my 3.25 is unweighted

That does change things a bit... did you happen to take any AP classes?

3 Honors courses, school only offers 3 APs

Did you take any of them? If not, I'd try to at least take one this year.

no i didnt

Try to get into them. MSU visited our school today. The person that came is head of the admissions and will personally be looking at each application.

He told me they will be taking your GPA, and factor out anything non academic. They count Foreign languages, Social sciences, Math, and Science. Then they come up with a new GPA. They also factor in AP courses.

When looking at the application, they first look at Academics and test scores. If someone is on the wire, Admissions looks at the essay, which I was told helped many get that acceptance letter when their academics were bad.

MSU has about 25,000 applications to process. I think it would be hard for any one person to honestly evaluate all 25,000 applications, no matter what they say.

Many people get into MSU with those stats, despite the averages, and especially from in-state.

If I had to bet I would say you will get in.
