As for my gpa, it gradually went down from my freshman year to my senior year but i gradually took harder classes (more aps) every year, so i hope that counts for something.

Im applying JHU ED. my other reaches are WUSTL, Cornell. My matches are GWU, BC, NYU. My safeties are Stonehill, BU, and UConn

JHU Ed is a reach, though much lower of a reach than if you were applying regular. I'd say get that critical reading score up quite a bit, or you have an even lower chance.

Write a great essay and you're chances will go up drastically. Essays can make your application, even if you are aren't superb academically.

Reading doesn't matter so much since you got an 800 on Math. You have a lot of strength in that area which they won't ignore at your schools. I think they can also take into consideration that you have only been in the country for about 5 years. You have come a long way definitely. JHU ED is a definite possibility because they accept 45% of apps and you seem reasonably well qualified. Relax with the clarinet though guy

lol... thats not really true. My stats arent good enough to get into some of the reach schools im applying to. i just really want to see if others think i have a decent chance toward some of the schools that im applying to. Of course, what they say wouldnt really make me change my college list, but i just want to know where im mostly going to end up in.

I agree with your categorizations of schools and your chances. I am surprised you are not applying to Holy Cross. They are very strong in the sciences and have built a 60 million dollar science complex. They are the top ranked Catholic college on USNews rankings for LACs.

ty for your inputs. Although i know my reading score is horrible, i believe JHU doesnt account SAT scores as much (from i heard in info session). I hope my ECs and essays/recs stand out so that it could possibly make up for my reading score.

im also applying to harvard just for the heck of it. lol
i have taken 2 astronomy courses there over the summer (from the real harvard professors obviously) and received A- and A.
Of course even w/ that, i have little or no chance of getting in there, but i think at least it would be better than not applying

On the other hand, my impression is that jhu places a lot of emphasis on SAT scores. 25% of admits scored 2300+... one person who had a 3.3 gpa at my school got in with a 2300+. I just don't think these data occur by chance.

thx! well i have also heard that ppl w/ not-so-great SAT scores got into top schools. but yeah, improving my CR score will def increase my chances. Its already late for JHU ED, but if i improve my CR score significantly in december, then i would def have good chances for other schools.
