PS:asian,first generation college student,low-income

father lives in other country.mother has to stay in other country usually for a few months a year.--->meaning that I and my siblings have to take care of ourselves.(a hard time which weakens my EC's quality)

Where are you from? Geographical diversity is key. Coming from the South, Midwest, Alaska, Hawaii, etc. will definitely increase your chances.

What’s your school setting: urban, suburban, rural. Rural school kids get an extra bump.

Your ethnicity will not help you much. Cornell is chock full of Asians.

Your GPA is good, but your class rank is a little low. If you were top 5%, I’d say your chances were better.

Your SAT II scores are impressive, but your SAT CR and Writing HAVE to go up. If you can clear 700 on both, you’ll be good to go.

Your EC’s are solid, but nothing impressive.

Bottom Line - Definitely apply. Your GPA and SAT scores are in range. Early Decision helps, that will increase your chance, although Engineering is one of the tougher colleges to get into!

^I’m from New York.My school is not rural.
I know my class rank is not good because i could not take weighted classes in my freshman yr.(rank by weighted GPA)and because i came to this country when i was a freshman,so getting used to the environment and language was something that i rather had to focus on…

btw, thank you for saying that my EC’s are solid.(i thought my EC’s were considered as HORRIBLE)

“I know i only have a 0.000000000000000000000001%…”
That statement itself tells me that you’re walking into an already-lost battle. Have confidence!

I’ll be brutally honest: just know that I am only voicing one opinion…I am not an admissions officer. I’m just trying to give some constructive criticisms

Your SATs are mediocre, SAT IIs are pretty good
Your ECs are not horrible, but they are VERY mundane…I am sure there are thousands of other applicants who match up/surpass your ECs. Simply put, you seem like “the typical Asian immigrant applicant”. That won’t do you any good.

"father lives in other country.mother has to stay in other country usually for a few months a year.—>meaning that I and my siblings have to take care of ourselves.(a hard time which weakens my EC’s quality) "

I apologize if I appear to be too blunt, but that “obstacle” alone MAY not make you stand out (don’t take my word for it, I’ve never been in your shoes). However, if you choose to, you can try and get the “I did the best in my situation” message across to admissions. Best of luck!

Sometimes I wonder why they even have a forum just for chances… appropriately titled “What are my chances?”

they need to make this like the ■■■ system…people submit their stats into a standardized form, and then volunteers can choose to chance these people whenever they want, instead of having to deal w/each separate thread.

…Or… just ban them from individual college forums…

I know i only have a 0.000000000000000000000001%…

nah, I’d say your chances are higher than that.

about 19.1%
