Being the son of 1st generation Asian parents, its hard from them as well because they know little to nothing about the colleges in America. They think Harvard, Yale, and Princeton are the only good ones...facepalm I have an interest in economics which is why I want to attend Northwestern...please someone chance me! I love the reviews and my friend that currently attends there tells me the campus is beautiful and the people are interesting :) so I think Northwestern will be good for me. Planning a visit there during summer

You’re competitive but nobody here is really in a position to assess your chances. Essays and recs matter a great deal. Northwestern likes students who are opinionated and have a “voice” that comes through in the app. If you sounded like you had something to say, that’s a plus.

Your stats will get them to consider your application. Your essays will have to give those numbers a face.

Agree with what wildcatalum indicated about the inner voice. The essay seems to be the place where the passion of the applicant is displayed. The “programmed” or “sterile” essay is one that probably reflects negatively on the application. Certainly, none of us know what they are currently accepting, but we do know that they are looking for intellectually curious people and those that will seek knowledge and accomplish something beyond the norm. Further, they seek candidates with broad and varied backgrounds from many walks of life. With the numbers of applications the adcoms are flooded with each year, your package must standout. How you create this is up to you but you can determine their hot buttons from looking at the stats of the admitted students that post on CC or at the common data set. My youngest son is a 1st year at NU and he was simplistic in his application in that it was not filled will a volume of fluff. Rather, it was his “voice” that resonated in the application that he was intellectually curious and serious about his pursuits. A somewhat “mature” presentation of his management of his life education. Not robotic and detached but passionate. It would appear that you are a reasonable candidate and if you can augment your statistical accomplishments with genuine passion, then it will be a successful process for you. Good luck on your endeavors.
